I was also recently told that the HFT gearbox is a cassette type, 15 mins to change, but a sealed unit costing near 3 grand, but come on, its a Honda. :P I read somewhere that the gearboxes are so expensive to make (and prohibitively expensive to fix) as assembly and maintenance are required to be ...

I'd be surprised if it was the key fob battery was flat, then I'd imagine that the scoot wouldn't switch on at all.

When you say it dies, do you mean that all the lights go out and the starter won't operate? It does sound like a weak battery or maybe some sort of poor connection or current drain, as it obviously uses power to start fuel pump, start up the computers and switch on some lights when you switch on! So...
