Re: cvt

With the increse in revs at the crank, the variator weights are thrown further up the ramps... Centrifugal (dont start on the centrapetal...) force... The squeezes the front pully pushing the belt up... Which by virtue the belt is a fixed length, must open the rear pully against the conti spring......

Re: cvt

Which is why, at least how it seems to me, that traditional motorcycle high revving engines are wrong for scooters with a CVT. What we need is peak torque low down so that the box can move up through the "ratios" without eating fuel. Instead what we have now are engines pulling 5k revs the moment yo...

Re: Xmax Vs Forza. Round 2

There again, most smaller scoots are going to be used in urban areas on roads that are lit - so the effectiveness or otherwise of the headlights is mostly irrelevant. If you live in the countryside, tough luck! I must admit I rarely ride in the dark these days, so headlight effectiveness of the Tma...

Both are exceptional scooters however the Yamaha sports the bluecore engine which I believe is far superior to the old Honda lump
No doubt about that. But as an overall package for someone who needs to ride on unlit roads it isn't a sensible purchase.

Xmax Vs Forza. Round 2

So we all know the outcome of round 1: the Xmax engine wins by a mile in the 300cc class, being more powerful and economical than anything around. But after 18 months of an Xmax and now my first night ride on the Forza I am calling the result of round 2: the headlight test. It's a comprehensive vict...

Re: Kawasaki J300

I ran an SE ABS for 3 years and was really pleased with it. Only reason I did not get the same again was because the bike on offer in 2017 (and now) was unchanged from the 2014. Others for much the same money have traction control and better economy. But to ride. It's easily the nicest, sharpest and...

Re: BMW C Evolution Scooter . Nice !

So for my next bike I want one like what you've got but for a purchase price of more like £6k or £7k, not £12k!

Won't be long, I suspect. :)

Re: X adv 150 spotted!

On the supposedly different engine capacity of the same bike, when Peugeot sold their 150cc bikes in the UK and most other places the capacity was quoted as 149.9. That was because those countries levied a higher tax on 150 and above. But mysteriously, where in Italy you could only use an autostrada...

Re: New Xmax 300

That Bluecore engine is way better than anything else out there right now: the combination of power and economy isn't matched by anything.

Re: Good pro-scooter article on BBC

"Emma Petitt, 41, a sales manager from Brighton, is already riding a 125cc scooter, but is considering a new, bigger model. She is well aware of the dangers faced on city roads. 'When I ride around in Brighton, it terrifies me. Car drivers just don't look.' " It obviously got so bad that she ditche...
