I picked up a 2014 Yamaha Xmax 250 last year for some local bimbling and mini two-up tours with my wife. The BMW R850R I did have was just too heavy, so I chopped it in for the Xmax and haven't regretted it. We did a short camping tour on the scooter around around Norfolk last August and we are hoping to do some more this summer.
Looking forward to joining in the discussions here and hopefully will get the opportunity to come along to a meet up.
I'm based near the Essex/Herts border.

I also ditched the heavy bikes for a maxi scoot. Life is so much more fun!
I see that you camped in Norfolk - planning a trip there myself so any tips on roads/places worth visiting would be helpful. Cheers

Greetings from the arse end of Essex (near Sarfend).
BMWs heavy? Hmmmmmmm. Having dumped mine on my leg in September I will be seeing how I feel about it in the Spring then making up my mind whether to replace it with a scoot of some sort.

Welcome from one 2014 X Max owner to another. Last motorbike I owned , pre retirement, was a VFR800. Do I regret replacing it with my X Max ?
NO !.

Re: New member from Essex
Thanks for the warm welcome all
I've ridden the Xmax more miles within the last 6 months than I rode the BMW over the last 5 years! The scooter is more fun and easy to move around, which was a problem for me with the BMW.
As well as doing some trips this year with my wife as passenger I'm also hatching plans to do a few short UK-based solo camping trips on the Xmax. Perhaps to Wales, or up through the Pennines and into Scotland. Just all plans at the moment!
Thanks for the info on the meet-ups. The High Beech meet on 24 Feb is a definite maybe. I've put it on my calendar. Epping is only 40mins away from me. What time is the meet up?
Argyll - I would recommend a tour of Norfolk by scooter. We had a great time. And the weather helped! We camped a couple of nights in the Broads before travelling up around the coast to spend another couple of nights near Weybourne before riding back to Essex The scooter carried two people plus all camping equipment without any problems. We enjoyed it so much that we want to explore more of Norfolk this summer.

Re: New member from Essex
Hi and welcome from another Essex muppet and camper. North Norfolk is one of my favourite areas for both scenery and camping facilities. I try to get at least two camping trips there each year, as well as othe UK destinations.
Hope to see you at some of the local meets.

Welcome from a mid-Essex'er, also with an Xmax.
Mine's a 300 - nice bike, shame about the main beam (I've thought of putting a mirror over the dash to project the main beam's blue warning light onto the road, as it appears to be brighter than the actual main beam).
