It works both ways, there are cars under a specific weight limit which can be driven on old motorcycle licences.

I too passed my bike test and "graduated" through Panther and sidecar to Reliant to eventually take my car test several years later. In those days (I don't think it applies now) a car licence also qualified you to drive a 50cc moped (which were very slow and decidedly bike-shaped). Had I not already been licensed as a biker, I would have been awarded a moped licence as a driver. It's weird step back to more convoluted rules.
