Fatal accident.

Post by roygib »

Last year South Lakeland had a high number of fatal accidents, last Saturday on the Hawshead to Newby Bridge road at Graythwaite a 55 year old man riding with a group of riders had a fatal accident.I hope the accidents are not going to be as many as last year.I do wish riders would reduce there speed on many of these very poorly maintained Lakeland Roads.

It's a total waste of life, the majority of weekend riders are taking part in a mis-sold sport, they buy dangerous pocket rockets and worse still the trend for lardy adventure bikes with multi adjustable engine settings, race, sport, wet. The old style training of making progress was wrong and has been toned down, but there are many out there thinking they have good skills. Roads are really bad in places, not suitable for any two wheeled transport.

Collisions involving road vehicles are not accidents.

Its all in the mind, you just need to think about it a bit more.

They may happen as a result of poor ability or decisions, but not on purpose so I think they are accidents.

They're no longer referred to as "accidents" as in RTAs, they're now "collisions" or RTCs. This is far nearer the true situation since an accident, by definition, couldn't have been avoided, whereas the vast majority of RTCs manifestly could and should have been avoided.

I hope Cumbria doesn't go the way of the Cat and Fiddle and A6 in Derbyshire. Vast swathes of 50 limit strictly enforced by unmarked bikes, cars and helicopters. All due to totally unnecessary excess speed in the wrong places causing multiple fatalities. It's not that the roads are inherently dangerous; they're scenic, interesting and great fun if enjoyed responsibly. We have to accept that on two wheels we're extremely vulnerable and ride accordingly. Speed doesn't kill; roads don't kill; people's behaviour kills.

Thinking your not dead probably doesn't work.

There are definately a lot of riders going too fast and taking too many risks and getting hurt - but I don't think we should lose sight of the fact that you can be doing everything absolutely right, be highly skilled and reasonable and still come a cropper.

I'll keep a look out for the collision investigation officers on my travels.

+1

The police/authorities now call call them collisions, doesn't mean the event isn't an accident.

Some are, some aren't
