Well I took the Shadow up to Scotland, and it was a great ride, (total 952 miles in all) although it could have been a bit warmer.
The Shadow didn't miss a beat, was comfy, reliable, returned 63 mpg average (even with the jet-up kit and loaded up with luggage) and used no oil at all. It was running as sweetly at the end of the trip as it was when I started.
Great bike the Shadow.

A jet up kit can make a engine run more efficiently and so if you
still travel at the some sort of speeds you can end up using less fuel.
Eck of a run at this time of year, respect is due.

Thanks Ralph.
Yes the jet up kit knocked my mpg around town down from 55 to 44, but I've always said you need to get a bike on a long run before you know its true character. My SV1000S used to drop to mid thirties in traffic, but on the same run to Scotland would return about 55-60 mpg.
The coldest bit was going over Shap on the M6 but it was a lovely view with snow on all the mountains and going down to the road in places, on the way up, but it was an enjoyable ride nevertheless.

Yes get a bike up to speed and cruising and the mpg goes well up, it sometimes
makes me think when you see the mpg they get on road tests but I have ridden
and owned a few ex test bikes and the hero pegs are usually worn off normal
people usually get a lot more mpg.
The old Shap road is good if you have time very little traffic and there's a cafe
on the left going south in Shap village, I call there if I get the chance, first time
I called with a mate we were so wet water running off opened the door and asked
if we could have a berw outside as we did not want to get their new wood floor wet,
they would have non of it and got us in and seated moping round us as we dripped,
good people.

I didn't use the old Shap road Ralph, I only passed by Shap on the M6. Much as I love The Lakes, the constraints of daylight hours made a visit impossible. As it was I ended up arriving in darkness and passed by it once, before actually finding the place. It's out in the sticks with no road lights and up a farm track which is easily missed in the dark, I then had to "scramble" the Shadow up a muddy rutted track. Despite the Shadows other attributes, trail riding isn't one of its fortes, especially fully loaded.. :? :)
