What we have is an antiquated old power transmission system where the few power stations that existed on the grid supplied and transmitted 132000 volts over long distances and dropped down to 33000 volts to sub stations and 240 volts to customers. The future is different, Local generated power by solar, wind etc supplying and storing low power customers needing very little power. In Maidstone a local incinerator was stopped from supplying cheap power to the locality, so it comes down to money IMHO.
