Burgman Economy

Post by Z750Jay »

How is everyone finding their 650 for mpg? My 2016 has several different levels. At 'normal' riding (50-70 mph, not canning it) I get a nice 55-68mpg. Spirited riding while keeping sports bikes honest, is not good, only about 44. Under 50 but above 35 around town gets 44-48mpg. All good so far but if I get stuck it traffic going less than 30-35 my mpg drops to the low to mid 30's! Does not matter if its stop go, I ride gentle or like one of the local 50cc kids it all results in crappy mpg.
Just strange it drops off so badly

Done 400 careful i.e. No more than 4K rpm and I'm getting 60mpg,I expect this will drop when 1000 miles done and roads dry out

That running in period was the 2nd worse biking experience of my life (1st was riding a AR125 on a 180 mile round trip every night for a few weeks in the late '80s). The restriction of 4,000 revs and gentle acceleration was terrifying - not ridden anything that slow since the AR125! For me it's the weird drop off in mpg if doing less than 30mph which is unfortunately what I get stuck a lot of the time doing. Love it when I get out for a ride at the weekends some place as it gives a decent economy though this week with most people off its not been too bad getting to work

Once that service is out the way the Burg finally comes alive and you can start overtaking stuff at motorway speeds :)
