MPG

As I mentioned in another thread on this forum I did this years ACU national rally a couple of weeks ago. It was the first chance I've had to properly check the fuel consumption of my '05 400.
83mpg! I am surprised at that, I was expecting around 60mpg, especially with the relative inefficiency of a CVT. The route I chose for the event consisted of a good cross section of roads, 70mph along the A36, negotiating a busy Westbury town centre and everything in between.
83mpg suggests a range of about 240 miles on a tank full. Do these figures seem right?
The bike performed faultlessly, two things though. Firstly, just before the event I found the trip meters decided to allow me to reset them, couldn't do that when I bought the bike. Secondly, the fuel gauge is as much use as a chocolate teapot! Well in to the red at around 150 miles. The gauge is also very sluggish in operation, takes a couple of minutes to move from the empty position to where it thinks it should be. Is this a thing with Burgmans?
