I have just picked up my new Tmax 530,its 12 plate in stealth grey with 750 miles on the clock. After riding it home i must say i am disappointed ! my old mk3 is just as good and its done 29000miles !
Transmission whine at slow speeds can be heard even through a tight fitting helmet. It feels no quicker than the 500, just a small amount of torque more but nothing to write home about!the exhaust farts a bit ?
It looks good but i cant help thinking what where they thinking when developing this model? I have had all mk`s now and this is the smallest jump in change i have witnessed.Moving from carbs to injection was a good move helped starting and running smoother but not much faster!
I think the mk3 was the biggest jump in tech with alloy frame better forks and brakes, its no C600 BMW engine wise,i have a demo on one and its feel much more powerful, might have to keep it a year then part ex it for a BM !!!!
PS Anyone want a MK3 as I now need the space in my garage!!!
I have just notice the service intervals are much better 6000miles between services but when does the oil change light come on? 3000miles ?
Regards
Steve

I was interested to hear that you didnt notice much of an increase in power, I suppose its only about 3-4 bhp more than the 500. Have you tried a Burg 650? it would be interesting to compare power to the BMW with that. For the price you paid you prob could have got a12 plate Aprilia SRV 850 scoot.

Burg looks too fat at the back not sporty enough for me ! Aprilia also a big large for me ! 3-4 bhp is not enough they should not have taken out the balance piston they should of fitted a spark plug in it and stuck some fuel in it,now that would have been interesting !!!!

That seems to be a bit disappointing as each time a bike evolves it should give you a better feel than the last one.

How curious! My impressions are the exact opposite!!!007tmaxer wrote:I have just picked up my new Tmax 530,its 12 plate in stealth grey with 750 miles on the clock. After riding it home i must say i am disappointed ! my old mk3 is just as good and its done 29000miles !

Firstly, I've read from another owner on here that the whine from the belt drive vanishes very quickly. I didn't get mine new (1200 miles) so I didn't hear it.
My personal view is that the jump from the mk3 to the mk4 is a decent jump - in retrospect, the biggest leap was from the mk1 to mk2, but the actual gains from the mk2 to mk3 weren't that great in my opinion. I think that most things have been improved a bit on the mk4 - not a revolution, but better. eg better ride, more roomy, better brakes. Economy is slightly better as well. I do find that the extra torque is very useful, and gives much better acceleration when overtaking people. Yes, no more ultimate grunt, and I would like more, but you don't need it that often. Your engine is obviously new, and maybe still be stiff so may give you more shortly. Yes, they've made more of a burble on the exhaust, but the raw chain-saw sound of the mk3 was an irritant. I preferred the mk2's deeper smoother note.
When I test rode the BMW, my impression was the exact opposite that it didn't feel much more powerful than my mk3, certainly not the 33% more one would have expected. I liked the BMW suspension, but the mk4 feels rather more BMW like than the mk3. The BMW didn't wildly impress me on my test ride - nothing wrong with it, but for £10k, it really ought to blow you away!
TMax Service intervals - I thought they have always been 6000 miles, with an intermediate oil change at 3000 (though the mk3 handbook was vague). Mine's done 2950 miles so I'm having the oil changed tomorrow as I'm going away on it for a couple of days.
So...what do I say? Sorry that your Tmax hasn't impressed. As I said, my impressions are very different, and personally, I think the mk4 is clearly the best Tmax, though it still a Tmax.

Re: just picked up my 530 Tmax !
I think you are correct when you say it feels more like a BM and yes mine has 750 mile on the clock so it has some way to being run in !
I did not pay top dollar for the MK4 some way of a second hand C600 sport which are around £7500 so i am still pleased to have the latest model I still am a Tmax man but the BM still looks tempting for next year if the MK4 holds its value!

As a C600 owner , having sold my T Max ( and I've had 5 of them ) I'd give it some time . The C600 does not have the fluidity of the T Max , Great it is, heated seat/grips ABS but you can't nail it like a T Max .Its a great Scoot , but if the T Max had the above extra's I would have that

Basically, what I'd like is a Tmax mk4 with a C600 engine!!!tmaxrobbo wrote:As a C600 owner , having sold my T Max ( and I've had 5 of them ) I'd give it some time . True, the TMax could use some extras even if it drives the price up. Give extras as a choice.tmaxrobbo wrote:As a C600 owner , having sold my T Max ( and I've had 5 of them ) I'd give it some time .
