Nice one!
You'll need to do some pics and a full write up later.
What are the service intervals like, does it share the 24,000 mile valve clearance check interval with the Majesty and is it screw and locknut or shim adjustment?

Re: My New Yamaha XMax400...
1st commute this morning...
It's tall, rock hard seat and suspension, but that will all loosen up in time brakes still need to bed in, and it feels like it wants to be given a mittenful!
Done 70 miles in half a tank - so hopefully will be doing in the region of 70 - 75 mpg's when run in and in general use - the 250 was 80 mpg...
Looking at the service schedule - same as the 400 Maj - not sure if the 400 Maj is Screw n Locknut or Shim Under Bucket...
Oil @3k miles - 10w-40 semi, I will prolly go for Halfords 10w-40 Semi, or Castrol 10w-40 Fully Synth
Oil Filter @ 12k miles - I will prolly double up and do a filter change every other oil change (6k/year), as used for stop start commuting...
Belt @ 12k miles
Valves @ 24k miles - Shim under bucket, from looking at the exploded diags on the Yamaha site... but thats 3 - 4 yrs away so will give me a chance to save up!
More to follow when i've got some miles on it and had its first service...

Re: My New Yamaha XMax400...
Filled up on the way in today... Meant to be a 14lt tank... with the fuel light flashing/switching to fuel trip with a reserve of 2 lt...
So after 146 miles the last fuel block began to flash and the odo switched to Fuel Trip... 9.56 lts of unleaded later... I make that 70mpg...
But that is bimbling and pottering about running in - will have to see how that changes when i can give it some mittens!
Filled up in the same manner as when i picked the scoot up - with the pump nozzle all the way in to the filler tube - and wait till the pump switches off...
I dare say you can get a little more in but its quite a narrow filler tube , and any extra is prolly gonna piss out of an overflow when you go round the first corner... but just want to do what is repeatable to get a handle on the mpg-ness...

Re: My New Yamaha XMax400...
Some more servicing info and thoughts...
Found a HiFlo Filter Kit on MSA-Direct for the YP400 Maj - Both Air Filters, Crankcase Filter, and Oil filter for £22...
http://www.msa-direct.co.uk/yamaha-yp40 ... r-kit.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Happy to throw a full set of filters for £22 at it every 6k miles / year...
OE Yamaha parts would come to about £68, so a saving of £46...
Front Pads are the same as the latter X-Max 250, EBC SFA196 @ £8.49 a pair from MSA-Direct, Yamaha want £27 a set...
Still need to find out what the EBC equivalent for the rears pads are, Maj has a Parking break, the X-Max doesn't so may have different pads...
Think they will be the same as the latter XMax-250 looking at the diagrams, and both a using Nissin calipers...
So major service costs is gonna be belt and rollers @ 12k / 2 yrs-ish and the valve check/adjust (shim under bucket - so cams out) @ 24k miles / 4 yrs-ish...
[Edit: Might have a go myself although its been a while - 1000 exup head with 5 valves per pot - that was 20 shims to measure...]
