Re: Ever wanted an Ohlins shock absorber for your Tmax?
My neighbor has one for his Ducati sitting in the box. Before he put it on (he had ridden his buddy's Ducati with one on) he called-up Racetech. For HALF what the Ohlins cost, they rebuilt the front forks with Cartridge Emulators, and also re-worked the rear shock to match. Afterward, it rode amazingly well, much better than his Buddy's.

The lads on the Honda NC forum buy these kits from the local Harley dealer as they are cheaper that way.

I had the Racetech cartridge emulators in my 1988 Honda XR600, they did work very well.

Why would a donkey want a shock absorber?

Saw somewhere in Europe where the front forks and brakes for an R6 were swapped out on the TMax. With those forks you could change to Ohlins or a shock of your choosing, and you get the better R6 brakes too.

Not surprised about the brakes - since the mk3, the standard brakes have been borrowed from other Yamaha models (eg Fazer), and the guy who I sold my mk1 to said that he was going to fit an R1 or R6 caliper to the front disk, which fitted straight on.llrdhsktr wrote:Saw somewhere in Europe where the front forks and brakes for an R6 were swapped out on the TMax. The snag with the rear shock absorber is that I believe it is (or certainly was) a rather unusual design that worked in extension rather than compression or something - never did get my head round that - which meant that for a long time aftermarket ones weren't available.
