Wandering the manufacturer websites for mid-range models, these details caught my eye:
Kymco no longer has the Downtown 300 listed. Just the People 300.
Peugeot has bumped up the Satelis 400 range by £200 (still no ABS) to £4799 & £4999.
The Sym Joymax 300 is £4699 - was it that much before?
Forza 300 & Sh300 are also £4699.
Nothing in the Suzuki range at 200-300cc
Beverley 300 can be had in EU3 or EU4 spec. £4693 & £4843. Why? the tech specs are identical.
X10-350 £5593 - that's near Suzuki 400 level.
Xmax 250 at £4499 but APR is higher than most others, at 6.4% and the power is way down on most, too.
Vespa GTS300 £4693.
Kawasaki J300 SE ABS still £4599 - but for how much longer?
Not at all impressed. Have I missed anyone out?

How odd! Probably one of their best scoots! Perhaps everyone is buying the Kawasaki version instead.StephenC wrote:Wandering the manufacturer websites for mid-range models, these details caught my eye:

No you noticed more than a couple of things Stephen. Some of those do look pricey now. Suzuki haven't done much with their scoot range recently have they, other than the Address?
Interesting and useful stuff to know too. Ta very much
You could be right about the Downtown Mr G.

Hmm, An interesting offer. What's the warranty with that?pikey wrote:Or 2006 sym hd 200 6000 miles £600 you do the maths
I could just keep the J300. It's on 18k miles and 2 and a bit years old. AND I have a winter tyre in the garage ready for November-ish onwards.

I know exactly how you feel.StephenC wrote:Wandering the manufacturer websites for mid-range models,

I have never ever had so much difficulty finding and buying a new machine & I've bought a few in recent years.
Now I'm retired the decision is important
As for the downtown I'm guessing Kymco having an alternative 300 differing from the Kawasaki will push their new 400 model when released

That's a recent price increase my one was £4299 back in March. It looks like they've already dropped theStephenC wrote:Wandering the manufacturer websites for mid-range models, these details caught my eye:

300cc sport model and the Joyride 200i is gone, though a newer version of the Joyride is available abroad.

Re: UK models - noticed a couple of things
Prices will have hopped up a bit due to the low pound.
As for the downtown 300, I could never see the appeal TBH, no feet forward and pitched against the SYM 300, which was only hobbled by the importer. I suspect the Kymco got quite a few sales against the SYM by being distributed by professionals, it's main competitive edge I'd suggest .
The Joyride 200 was also killed by the importer, better in every possible respect than the Honda SH it was a squandered opportunity and an example of how to crush a super product with studied indifference,
Still one of the best scooters around, anywhere. What were SYM Taiwan thinking?!?
