Ok, I've had the coffee now. I would like to confirm that the Xmax can stay for now even without a "bag" hook. True, curries would best be carried under the seat but what if it leaks? All my stuff would be covered. Much better that if it were to leak, that I would take the full brunt of the brown stains all over my trousers. Hang on, that's not a good look, is it?

Still, whatever the hook thing is called, I want one back. I'm going to get onto Yamaha in a minute. Well, once I've finished lunch...

I should think the curry would spill, whether on a hook or under the seat.

More seriously, I was thinking about that today, as it happens. The front feels quite stiff, with washboard surfaces not being too pleasant but giving a lot of confidence when cornering. Conclusion: nice. The rear feels too soft and bouncy, at least compared to the old J300. Conclusion: Cadillac suspension circ 1958 may be inadvertently installed.

I may have a look and see what setting the rear pre-load is set to if I get a chance (and remember).

standard factory suspension settings arn't set for us beefy westerners, I always stiffen up my shocks .

Just found out something else I'm not keen on.

With the J300 a Datatag was included. With ALL of my Peugeots there was an immobiliser good enough to satisfy the insurance.

The Yamaha experience? The Xmax has neither so I'm going to have to stump up for a fitter-installed Category 2 Immobiliser otherwise my insurance will be declared invalid in 3 weeks time. Cheers, Yamaha.

Weird that my 2014 X Max 250 has a factory​ fitted immobilizer but the 2017 model does not. Even on a Gocompare site there was a drop down box that included Yamaha Immobilizer Security System (Y.I.S.S).
Is the lack of a factory fitted immobilizer a trade off for the keyless ignition ? Does the keyless system allow an immobilizer to be fitted ? I know which I prefer.

Are you sure the keyless is not an integrated immobiliser?

I'd be surprised if not, worth talking to Yamaha?
