Silverwing Downgrade/Upgrade !!!.

Post by XP500FUN »

Well done over 600 miles on the new ( old ) silverwing and do love it ( even though its not a T-max ).

But much as I was chuffed at first to find its had the Hyperpro front springs put in, I think I may need to get some std ones ( anyone got any very cheap please ).

On the open road and going for it the handling is great with them in but my riding is 90% bumpy country roads and they themselves feel very bumpy on those.

The T max with std ones in although will dive in a brake grab, its far more forgiving on small rough roads at the front.

The silverwing definately has got progressives in as really grab the front brake and all that really happens is the bike slows down very quickly if you will.

Its great for handling in a way but it is bumpy city on the 40mph coutry undulating bumpers.

Any thoughts in advance please and anyone got any sat in a shed please.

Found number 4 ( out of 5 ) on the rear suspnsion suits me best.

But would like to upgrade those next year as well.

Best Mark.

Is it because of the springs or could it be because the fork oil is going through the damper too slowly ? I presume that as you are aware of hyperpro's you will be aware that they supply 20w fork oil in the kit to replace the standard 10w that Honda put in ?

Hi on the reciept it says 30w oil was used ?

Its just like to smooth it out a little at the front.

Best Mark. Thanks.

PS I hope there is a drain bolt if I need to change just the oil.

Hi M well maybe yours are OK.

I`m 100% sure if you had ridden this bike you would feel the same.

Going by my T max and many other bikes too, I definitely need to sort these out a bit at least.

Possibly just too thick oil maybe.

Certainly going to look at popping 10 or 7.5 in.

Some people are just more sensitive I guess, our 'Murican friends seem particularly so, buying a brand new bike and changing forks, screen, tyres, seat, horn etc. immediately.

Just seems like a waste of money to me but then I'm definitely on the less sensitive side. With the Africa Twin there seems to be some talk of vibes, small footpegs, moaning of suspension, "scary oem tyres in the rain" and buffeting from the screen whereas I'm sat on it happy as a pig in shit on the motorway in pissing rain thinking what the hell are they talking about?.....

I'm a believer in ride it for a while first. Sometimes its just a matter of getting used to a different bike. The only thing that bugged me was the rear suspension 2 up, it still bugged me after 6k miles so I've changed the shocks which has made a difference.
The front seems fine to me and always has.
When I have cash spare I might mess about with dr p sliders, but I'm in no rush.

My Wing's bog standard apart from a Givi AirFlow screen, it's on Bridgestones, recommended tyre pressures and shock settings for two-up riding.

Its great but I do think std front springs would have done me better possibly.

Hopefully some thinner oil will be a little more the part. Worth a cheap try in winter.

Its a serious mile crunching machine.

Only downside is how many miles I`m going to put on it.

About 900 so far.

Mileage on the Silverwing is no problem; there's a chap in the US with more than 170,000 miles on his and it's still going strong.
