Xmax 400 2018

Post by MrGrumpy »

Now that Suzuki are finally getting around to selling last year's Burger 400 in the UK, Yamaha has just unveiled the 2018 Xmax 400...

http://www.motociclismo.it/yamaha-x-max-400-2018-67918

Basically, it looks like a Tmax, and weighs as much as Tmax, and has the biggest exhaust I've ever seen! A price of €6940 (£6145) is mentioned.

By far the best thing about the video on the webpage is the soundtrack.....

Ok, so apart from the exhaust it looks identical to my 300.

Differences are that the rear wheel is down from 14" on the 300 to 13" to accomodate the extra cc's and that for your extra £1k over the 300 you get +5hp, +28kgs (to cope with which there's an extra front brake disc) weight, a parking brake and what looks like a more comfy seat.

Call me biased, but I'd save the grand and stay with the 300...

Agreed, can't see the point of the 400. Also that one extra disc is probably heavier and Yet Another Caliper to rebuild at service time, I've enjoyed having a single front caliper for that reason.

Bags of cement come in 25kg bags so I'd expect a few less MPG to haul that around town. Smaller rear wheel will cause faster tyre wear: the extra torque won't help that either.

a £thousand is not to be sniffed at either, buys a lot of food, petrol, insurance. Lower tax on the 300 possibly too, can't remember the cost cc switches above 150cc LOL.

The move to a 13" rear wheel is rather odd, though having 33bhp is always fun! And space for 2 full face helmets (allegedly) and traction control is nice. Didn't I remember reading that latest Burger 400 can't hold 2 full face helmets any more???

...gained new ‘motorcycle-type’ dual-clamp forks... Great News for a Mid Size / Capacity machine...
...The 400cc single-cylinder engine is now compliant with the latest Euro4 emission limits... Dunno if it is the same Maj donk or new engine... looks the same with new transmission casing...
...also comes with traction control and a keyless ignition... good stuff TC will help with the weight...
'Zorst looks the same as the '13 model, so Acra already available...

Extra php over the 300 is one thing - how much extra torque?...
which is why i went for the 400 from my XMax250...
Is the 300 a real 300 or a big 250?

Silver Wing has 13" rear, reckon by the time I get back from the Wales trip later in the month I'll need a new rear, fitted a new 'un for the MoT on May 30th, so will be second this year, if it's a long summer it might need 3  but as you say extra hp is fun
