Re: fjs
I'm not sure that any of the model designations of any of the Japanese companies have any intrinsic meaning...though I could be wrong. I'm sure there must be enthusiast groups and specialist websites that track them! I'm always intrigued where model codes are shared - like many Honda 125s are designated FES, and Yamaha call Majesties and Xmaxs YP. And why are the smallest Burgmans UH, whilst the bigger ones are all AN? And what was the logic behind Yamaha designating the (530cc) mk4 Tmax as XP500, but the mk6 as XP530 (or XP530E or XP530D)??
Of course the firms do use acronyms for some bits of equipment, ranging from the sensible to the daft like DCT= Dual Clutch Transmission and HFT (the hydraulic transmission on the DN01) stood for Human Friendly Transmission or something similar!
