Hey guys, only me! Been given permission to use the putery thing again by my consultant (but limited time at the screen). So after my initial sessions of eye surgery, all is well. So far it's gone swimmingly, and has been a complete success. I have a few weeks before the next set of operations, after which I should be ok to resume normal service. I should be cured of acute angle glaucoma, no more cataracts, and hopefully an end to the neurological condition that's affecting my brain and making me feel so unwell. But not there yet.
Anyhoo, how you all doing. I haven't caught up with all your posts yet so don't know what's going on.
During my ban from the computer (initiated by my consultant to stop me feeling so unwell due to the blue light generated by the screen), I've been able to rust proof the Vespa GTS300ie, and fit a set of the Oxford Advanced Heated Grips - Adventure. These have 9 heat settings and draw up to 3.9amps but average 3.6amps or just under on the highest setting. The Vespa's have a high capacity generator (450w) so can easily handle that current draw. There's enough amps left over. The grips turn themselves off if I forget, have a battery saving mode which kicks in at lights or anytime you stop in traffic for longer than two minutes, and seem much more robust than any other Oxfords that I've fitted in the past. Plus you can buy all the spare parts for these if you need to replace a grip due to a spill or replace the main controller too if needed. The grips get nice and hot, much hotter than the oem ones on my Burgman or Vstrom ever did. I don't think they will ever need to be on more than 70% max power. Indeed on a cold day run (not freezing admittedly) over 30 miles with the grips set to 80% as a test, the grips got so hot they actually warmed the backs of my hands too, the heat travelling around the glove. Had to turn them down! However, on a freezing day that will be welcome.
Here's a piccy or two of the Oxford grips & controller:
I fitted the controller on the left kneepad which is a fairly convenient place for it. I also didn't want to spoil the headstock with a controller that would look like a carbuncle stuck up there.
All in all very pleased with the Vespa after 9 months of ownership. She's a keeper! I'm off to read some of the posts you guys have been putting up now. I think I've been missing all the excitement.

'Chin up' data, all the best for your up-coming ops too.
It looks like the scoot keeps you occupied and may help to take your mind off the healing process.

Just realised I missed the "Pie & Mash" run to Walton with Mottza and others. Darn it! But it was probably a bit too soon after my ops anyway. I wouldn't have been able to see where I was going!!... Although that probably wouldn't have made any difference as I just close my eyes anyway when I'm riding if I get scared! I've found that to be the best way...
