But I don't think it will help much. Ice is ice whether you have two wheels or three, and as for snow, forget it. Having only one driven wheel would mean no traction. And I gather they can throw you off though not as easily as a two-wheeler. Though all in all better than a two-wheeler not really enough, especially when it comes to helping with my confidence issues.
If you're a reasonable driver ice; in a car or a trike it is a small skid: no big deal. On a two wheeler it's about falling off - so ice might be ice but a trike's not a bike :). Maybe give one a test ride - you may be quite reassured by the ride.

The MP3 might be big and heavy but the Tricity is lighter than the Yamaha 2 wheeled 125 as its designer was used to MotoGp bikes.

Not sure about expense, probably less than a new car and less likely to need new panels from falling over :).
Also you get a smoother ride at the front as the bumps get averaged between to two front wheels.

I've also thought of a nice Morris Minor for a retirement project and as daily transport, but to be usable in modern traffic they really need a 1300 motor and twin discs on the front as well as a host of other upgrades. You can get a half decent one for 4-5000.
I still remember the registration of my Minor estate, it's the only vehicles I can remember JKD 3D. I swopped it for a more modern Ford Escort Mk 1 with a clapped out motor, big mistake.

I like the old 'plan ahead' brakes of yesteryear :)
They taught you foresight, a valuable skill in todays world...

My friend is just about to restore his Morris Traveler estate, it's not been on the road for about 15 years. It was used as 'The Darling Buds of May' the doctors car. We have someone local to carry out the bodywork restoration, the engine/gearbox is out of the car, so I'll probably tune that.
It will get the disc brakes, suspension mods, modern LED lights etc, he thinks all the wood is sound. I'll let you know the cost, I think he'll be spending at least £7000-£10000.
To be honest doing up a later car makes more sense, my Berlingo Multispace for example is 17 years old, has no rust, a credit to Citroen.

I've read a lot of reviews that started, "I was very sceptical about these three wheelers until the first time I applied the front brakes. They then go on to say how much fun they are to ride and how well they go around bends.

I feel your pain, when the weather is really bad I take my adventure bike as it crashes better than a plastic clad scooter. I gave my VW Polo to my son when he passed his test so I might need a car for snow days. I'm currently saving as I fancy an Audi TT 3.2 V6 quattro auto, can be had for upwards of a few grand now and would be a good 'selfish' car just for me for fun spring/summer driving days, a bit of shopping and snow days.

I'd love an R35 Nissan GTR but haven't won the lottery yet.

Burgman, I'd certainly take a 3 wheeler out for a spin. They are terrifically stable in whatever weather or road conditions. It would have a huge impact on your confidence issue. I would think you have to be a complete idiot to fall off in whatever weather conditions. I haven't ridden one is snow but I took one through lots of deep mud on roads, and I know a two wheeler would not have managed it, unless it was an off roader with knobblies on. Traction didn't seem to be an issue and the stability on the slippery bits had to be experienced to be believed.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Been riding for 54 years & owned too many bikes to list here...

I have to say I couldn't give up 2 wheels as driving a car here would drive me potty within a short space of time, with the horrendous traffic 'specially in the Summer months. It's bad enough on a bike... :?

You are quite right....but once a colleague of mine needed a car ASAP for no money. I steered her away from old BMWs and Mondeos, but found a tired looking Honda Accord 2.0 Auto which was already 15 years old with 140K on the clock for £500. That damned thing ran and ran and ran! She kept it for years and did goodness how many miles in it. No it wasn't faultless, but only minor things went wrong with it.

3 wheeler is the perfect option and whack an apron on it for the really bad weather . If concerned about rear wheel traction fit a winter tyre or a knobbly if you so desire . I have ridden the 500 and the only reason I did not buy it was ,I felt it lacked a bit of grunt for what I required ,but it certainly was fine on the motorway when I ventured that way .Give one a try before you jack it in ,best of both worlds imho especially if your looking for confidence from a machine .
