Just over 3 amps on full power when cold

Re: Heated grips
Current, yes...the ones you are going for use just slightly under 4amps as they heat up on high settings. During use that actually means they average 3.5amps once they reach temperature. The Oxford 'scooter' grips use 3.2amps but only have two heat setting and really don't get that warm on a very cold morning.2wheelover51 wrote:So the accessory socket will only be live with ignition on, so no need for the relay.Funkycowie wrote:Yes, easy enough to do, there is an accessory socket/connector behind the nose on the right side.
I tried the grip glue method with my R&G Grips but ended up using electrical tape wrapped round the handle bars.
Does anyone know what current the grips draw (about) ?
Cheers.
Dismal grey and raining here in Dorset also.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Re: Heated grips
Ah, thanks for all the info. guys. Will probably go for the Oxford premium touring. I was just chatting to a bloke with an MT07 who said he's had them for over 10 years and wouldn't be without them, I've never had them as my hands don't tend to get that cold but I think I'm going to order some soon as I've got a run up north in Jan/Feb which will last 7-8 hours and probably be coolish...

Once you've had heated grips you won't ever want to ride without them. They are useful even on cool summer days and nights making the whole riding experience so much more fun and comfortable, and a very definite "must have" to do any trip like the one you are shortly undertaking!

I found it cheapest to buy the scooter grips and an oxford V8 controller - saved about £10 over the fancy package.Data wrote:The Oxford 'scooter' grips use 3.2amps but only have two heat setting and really don't get that warm on a very cold morning.
I think mine were from 'Black Circles'.

Re: Heated grips
I wore out a few sets of heated grips over the years then got a set of these
still have them somewhere I liked them and can be removed in seconds
if not needed.

I have a set of those and they work well enough, i bought them to fit over the pillion grab rails for Pat when she is with me...
As said no complaints from the rear of the bike as i got before i fitted them. Just wrap around the rails and i fitted a DIN socket under the seat to plug them into, switch just another bit of 3M velcro on the rails.

Re: Heated grips
They might actually be a good idea for me as I could switch them between bikes.

Re: Heated grips
One of the mysteries of my life...I have a set of those as well, but I can't find them! I know I salvaged them from the wreck of the SH300 - I think I used them on the baby Burger, but I can't find them. I've turned the house upside down on several occasions looking for them! They were quite good actually, though of course make the grips somewhat thick.Ralph wrote:I wore out a few sets of heated grips over the years then got a set of these

I've had a pair of Oxford Scooter Grips fitted to the mk6 Tmax. The high heat position works fine, though the low heat is pretty useless.
btw The effectiveness of any heated grips is greatly increased if a set of handlebar muffs is used as well - helps retain the heat rather than it getting lost to the atmosphere.
