SHOCKING!
Will have to check the shocks on my '13 XMax400 - as they look the same... 1SD-F2210 £160 Each...
A potential £320 issue that wont get any where when out of warranty - but if they are shite / faulty - should there not be a recall?
does the fault only materialise if you adjust ya suspension from time to time?

Perhaps its a sneaky economy move - they know most owners never adjust them so they make them weaker and cheaper, and suffer the warranty costs from the few who do! And sell lots of expensive replacement parts in later life.....genius!XMax400Paul wrote:SHOCKING!

Yes, but only been messing to see what difference there is when scratching. Will just leave on setting 2, as that's fine for most rides and Iv'e got the better handling out of my system now.XMax400Paul wrote:SHOCKING! ....does the fault only materialise if you adjust ya suspension from time to time?
I fear I will be back to dealer as I have noticed the 'new' R/H one can now be pivoted/twisted below that collar. Dealer has told me to complain to Cust. Srv's. Paul I would'nt worry to much, theres always Hagons shocks at about £160 p/pair.
Probly right.MrGrumpy wrote:.... they know most owners never adjust them so they make them weaker and cheaper, and suffer the warranty costs from the few who do! And sell lots of expensive replacement parts in later life.....genius!

I was just about to say that I'd be visiting Mr Hagon once the warranty period is over! I find the whole issue pretty dreadful though...as has been said, why hasn't there been a recall, given possible safety implications?ramasay wrote: I fear I will be back to dealer as I have noticed the 'new' R/H one can now be pivoted/twisted below that collar. probly. as you said earlier, no one bothers to adjust settings, so nothing ever flags up.MrGrumpy wrote:.....why hasn't there been a recall, given possible safety implications?

I adjusted the pre-load on my 300 (it was a struggle though) and haven't noticed anything breaking. The 400's could be different, I guess.ramasay wrote:probly. as you said earlier, no one bothers to adjust settings, so nothing ever flags up.MrGrumpy wrote:.....why hasn't there been a recall, given possible safety implications?

Could be the 400 has heavier springs but it just should not happen
that coller in effect carries the weight of the rear of the bike, it
is likely a bad batch but I will look at my 300 with suspicion when
I get it.

Well that's all very successfully put me off even thinking about the 400 until they've finished designing it...
I made the same mistake buying a BMW F800ST years ago, just after it was introduced and before all the 'bugs' were ironed out - so many things went wrong, I traded it in for a Deauville after a couple of years.
Which was wonderful in comparison...

I wouldn't be put off, I've just been unlucky, no issues on previous xmax's suspension.Greyerbeard wrote:Well that's all very successfully put me off even thinking about the 400 until they've finished designing it......

Two potentially life-threatening failures in 1200 miles is more than unlucky - every single one sold should be recalled NOW and not ridden again until fixed!ramasay wrote:I wouldn't be put off, I've just been unlucky, no issues on previous xmax's suspension.Greyerbeard wrote:Well that's all very successfully put me off even thinking about the 400 until they've finished designing it......
