Hi Guys Just to be clear i'm using an optimate111sp for my battery charging,i take it that this is ok for the Xmax 300 ?

Yep that will work, what I do is to plug the charger into a timer switch so it turns on for a hour each day this keeps the battery happy all winter.

this obviously works for you but does an hour give the charger time to desulphate the battery and stop the cells 'memory locking' I thought the idea was to make the charge continuous

I have been doing it for over 20 years and only ever had a battery die once and that one was over 15 years old,
battery's don't usually get sulpherated unless they are allowed to stand flat, I suppose you pays your money
and takes your chance but as you say this works for me.

TBH I am always surprised how many bikes have to have new batteries fitted that aren’t very old.
I’ve always used an Optimate on all my bikes and never yet replaced a battery (Touch wood.... :) )
A mate of mine had a R1 and he never used an Optimate over the winter months and he seemed to be having a new battery every year!

Had a phone call today to say that my new Scoot is ready to collect tomorrow :D
Got the day off so I can have a good play on it :)

Liking the Timer idea sounds sensible.
