Hi,
Been off the scene for quite some time.
Anyone got any idea who is making the new BMW 400?
When its coming and roughly how much?
I also fancy the piaggio beverley 350 sport but not sure which one to go for.

Likely to be Kymco based, I should think.
Price? Too much.....

Terribly good questions, to which there is no info around at all. We know the C650s have components made by Kymco, but I think BMW also have a link to Indian company Apache for small bikes, so either is possible. Bet the BMW approaches £6k in price....I suspect the BMW will be a better scoot than the Bev, but a lot pricier to run.

I don't know why anyone would pay BMW prices for a scooter.

BMW are over priced for what they are however do look nice. the piaggio beverley is toned down looking scooter and does have a very reliable engine and are fairly nippy scooters.

As Meldrew says. Also, I dunno the price of the new 400 but their 650 models are actually around the same price as a Yam TMax and the DX version of the TMax is actually several hundred dearer than their top 650 version, so not "BMW prices" in the case of their large capacity scooters.Mister Paul wrote:I don't know why anyone would pay BMW prices for a scooter.
As for the Bev 350, I bought one a few years ago when the new model came out and I thought it was exceptionally good.

...or in my experience, are extremely rapid! Poor suspension & chassis IMHO though, making it hard work to ridekishan wrote:. the piaggio beverley is toned down looking scooter and does have a very reliable engine and are fairly nippy scooters.

I suspect that the BMW 400 will be priced to match the Burger 400 and Yamaha Xmax 400 which are its clear competitors - Mr Yamaha is asking £6149 for the latter.

Re: BMW C400X v Beverley
I have no objection to any manufacturer making their machines anywhere in the world. I also have no problem with paying extra for better quality if I can afford it. However, if I pay a premium price for, say, a Japanese, English or German bike or car, then I DO object to owning something made in a cut-price economy. If it was cheap to make then it should be cheap to buy. Years ago, if you bought something made in Hong Kong, you would have expected it to be tatty and poorly made. At least it would have been cheap.

Re: BMW C400X v Beverley
I don't care where my scooter is made tbh as long as it's to spec and the specs are stringent. I read an interesting article a while ago about Triumphs factories in Thailand. They look to be turning out top quality stuff. Anyone in any country can make high quality stuff given the right materials and training.
