Silverwing Clutch off and settings. ?

Post by XP500FUN »

Hi as mentioned elsewhere I have the dreaded rear screeching clutch on my silverwing.

Looks as if a couple of rev to 4K deglazes actually have after a few miles made it worse with dust etc.

Now very vibey and uneven especially 3-4 K. When its warmed up its even worse

I was going to order a Malossi Clutch but I think it may mean the variator works later in the revs so also may let go when slowing and on hills etc earlier ( higher ) than the usual 2K which I like.

So going to take it off and clean it out and do a deglaze in the air if you will.

I know the torque setting on the actual variatpr nut is 76lb`s.

But what is the clutch one please.

Also can you re-use the clutch bolt as I saw it sugessted you should by a new one ?

What needs to come off to get the clutch out once the side covers are off please.

Also any tips etc.

Going to leave the bolts in thier places as the covers come off as that can be confusing itself when you come to put them back on.

Anyway many thanks for all and any tips please.

Best Mark.

Did i read in another post that though low mileage the belt is the original? If so i would replace that while apart, using an o.e. belt. The rest is personal choice but i would use a standard or standard type clutch, service the variator and fit new rollers if not perfectly round.

Thanks both, yes it has a new Honda belt in £79 posted from David Silver, but the rollers were like new.

I wish I had known about cleaing the clutch at the time. But you learn as you go etc.

I might pop some Dr Pulleys in when funds allow.

I was going to go crazy and hit evern more overdraft and get a clutch and DR Pulleys, but can`t really for now so its in for free and clean up etc.

Just going to watch the video on the TV as the sound has gone off on my PC.

Ps Ive asked the malossi clutch supplier if it will affect the drive rpm bite and let go point in the revs but they think not.

Anyone know please as if after cleaning etc it starts again I`ll have to jump on one as its really getting hard going.

Hopefully be doing the clean up etc this evening.

Thanks again.

Mark.

Clean out the hub and give the pads a rub down and you'll be fine. But it will dust up again, it seems to be the nature of the beast! It's an easy peasy job.
As your going to have the belt off to get the clutch out you may as well stick some Dr P's in.
I can't see any reason not to re-use the clutch bolt.

Was that the £110 J Costa ?

Done the clutch.

But anyone with similar issues don`t do the 4K few seconds brakes on thing.

There is a score in my drum and small flecks of metal in the clutch shoes.

It was only a 1 hour quick job to do it all peoperly etc.

So need a drum bell if anyone has one for sale or the whole set up might be handy.

Thanks Mark.

Yes mark simple to fit slight reduction in revs 70 mpg is about 5200 to 5400 rpm mid acceleration is 40-50 to like 70-80 feels like 25% quicker really really nippy also I done the belt to so not sure if it’s that alone or the combination but it’s so smooth now right through the Rev range
