Re: Rear Brake Oddity ?
Hi going to replace the rear master cylinder Friday evening with luck, and hopefully it will help things.
Be nice to have a rear brake to fall back on !!! when out and about.
Can I just ask in adavance please it looks as if just 2 bolts to take it off plus a philips that holds brake switch gear set up etc.
I know I need to buy a manual, but to be honest advice from other bikers seems to go in better.
But the diagrams etc are a must have.
I did have a Haines for one of my bikes that needed lots doing regularly, that seemed to miss allsorts of things out that would of been handy.
Best Mark.

Re: Rear Brake Oddity ?
I would think if it was the master cylinder there would be pressure in the system holding the brake on so releasing the bleed niple would release this and the brake would release, if there's no pressure at the bleed niple I would think it is not the master cylinder but something to do with the caliper or pads.

Re: Rear Brake Oddity ?
I would just strip the master cylinder and clean the plunger assembly first...
Maybe something simple like old hardened fluid blocking the transfer holes / chamber...
If not a M/C repair kit... plunger with seals and spring etc... if the bore is not damaged
You will prolly need circlip pliers to get the plunger out...
Re-assembly with components, especially seals soaked in brake fluid... rather than dry
A second hand Master Cylinder may be no better - and would recommend a strip n clean at least - maybe a reapir kit fitted - prior to fitting!?!

Redaing back, I see ..
.... your problem could be too much grease causing 'sticksion'XP500FUN wrote:Hi recently cleaned up the rear caliper on my Silvering.
Its been in out, and all about. grease every which way but loose in the right places.
