5 years ago though, the range would be around 30 miles at 70mph. The rate of battery technology advances is the most significant thing.

Tinkering and fettling is something I can live without. I'd rather ride.Scootypuff snr wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:16 pmStephenC wrote: ↑Thu Aug 30, 2018 10:12 am So here we have a 21hp, 100 mile range, 70mph+ capable bike by Zero for £8995.
Seriously, if it had storage it could be my next purchase. By the time my finance on the Xmax is done in 2 year's time, I reckon there will be a viable electric option for me. Can't wait!

Do you still need to put a shilling in the meter to get electricity

I do think that hydrogen is great for powering a motorbike.

There are tinkering possibilities, just different to a custom engine, that's all.
Battery capacities, motor tweaks, probably gearing. No doubt there'll be economy fettling too. Noise generators might be fun as well.

Re: I think electric is now in sight
I agree that progress made is good, but the range is still poo so I'd rather wait until it has a decent range and can be charged quickly (in 10 mins or less) nationwide. Otherwise it's just an expensive toy that can't be taken touring.
For example, my recent Wales long weekend camping would have taken 15 full (!!!) charges. Ridiculously impractical and that's assuming you can actually find somewhere to charge it every 40 miles....

Courtywide electric is not just impractical its almost impossible.
We are barking up the wrong tree.
Quite enough land is going under concrete and tarmac as it is. Heaven help us if we go more electric vehicle wise.
Also so much electric is lost between the station and the plug in point its nuts.
Also all the crazy toxic batteries and dealing with them etc.
Whatever we do, and if we somehow burn less fossil fuels here, someone else will be happily be burning more of them them elsewhere.
I don`t believe there is any fix, short of a stunning almost sci fi energy production breakthrough. Even then if it were not quashed by vested interests.
More and more people consume more meat, fuel, water etc etc each year.
Hold on to your hats and enjoy your rides.
Best Mark.

Re: I think electric is now in sight
My wife and I both bought Trek eBikes about a year ago. They are fun. Being peddle-assist they are good to get your heart pumping every now and then. Riding silently through the bush. Its funny, as now cyclists say things like "you are cheating" and stuff like that. But if it wasn't for my Trek eBike I wouldn't be riding a bicycle.Capt.
