I'm inclined to disagree. There's a very long, ongoing, thread on the C90club forum just for Riders Cub clones, in addition to the later Zeths ones. No they aren't the same build quality as the old Hondas but they are far from being the crock of sh** you imply. There are many that have done decent mileages now and still turn up on C90club events. The gearboxes AFAIK haven't given any issues, probably because they are direct copies of the 3 speed semi auto Honda boxes. I believe that some of the Chinese 4 speed boxes in the Wave/innova clones have given issues, though decent ones from Lifan & Loncin seem to be far better built.;)

You are absolutely correct about the brake drum. I can't get my head round why anyone thought that was a good idea. :?

agreed, of all motorcycle/scooters ever produced , the honda cub gets my 100% respect.

My first long ride on a motorcycle, South London to Swanage on HPL400C a C100 in 1966, and this year I will repeat it on the Innova. My love for these well made small bikes has stayed with me, I commuted into London on them saving me money and not catching colds and flu from using the crowded trains. You are under the police radar when using them, being waved through during drink driving crackdowns.
I always feel pleased when I fill up at petrol stations and get change of a fiver having been out all day.
But it was the engineering that set them apart, very reliable Stanley electrics, good oil leak free engines.
A Bantam or a Cub, like chalk and cheese.

Fair enough, your experience of them is surely more recent than mine (I haven't been anywhere on a Cub of any description in at least three years), although the fire damaged POS I mention is in one of those threads on c90club. All the ones I have seen in the flesh, and have had personal experience of fixing/laughing at have been the level of complete shit I describe earlier, though.

Loncin's Innova clones... yeah, maybe worth a look but 4-speed Lifan Cub engines are a total lottery when it comes to gearbox lifespan. But whatever... I don't do that sort of thing anymore so it's not my problem :D

It might be that they have improved in recent years. I probably started riding Cubs again, and taking notice of what's hot and what's not, while you were winding down.

The Lifan 4 speed boxes may well have had some issues in the past, but ones bought and used in the last 4 years have a great reputation. Bogger's 110 4 speed Lifan has been thrashed around Europe every year, as well as being used for commuting, plus he ain't a small bloke. :lol:

The Chinese Riders Cubs owned by C90club folks are racking up regular mileages. However that's not to say that there aren't just as many rotting in sheds or burned out in breakers' yards.

Back on topic, the new C125A Supercubs are now starting to appear on the C90club forum. At least one of those has been bought specifically for commuting.

I would love one myself, but being self employed, and not well enough to work properly for half the year has put paid to any idea of that! 8-)

You'll have had one of every colour at least and sold them well before that, I reckon. 8-)

..... There's also the fact that I don't actually know what I will be able to ride yet, including the bikes in my garage now! :lol:

Surgery was completed successfully on 6th November, and I still have several weeks of recovery before I can work properly.

If all progresses properly I will start looking at what's feasible after Christmas.

good stuff, at least its behind you now. I'm self employed and when recovering from surgery it can be very frustrating I know, but with time you will be back to normal Ged, just keep an open mind as the healing process is out of your hands.
You'll soon be riding (and working) again. thumb.gif
