I've got my phone connected to my Fitbit, I can see my heart rate as I cycle.

I've just bought one for my lady and myself - they are amazing. We find that there is a workout to be had with these bikes despite the motor by using the lowest power assistance as often as possible. On hills, we use lowest power again and treat ourselves to boost after some panting! Obvious I guess, but the trick is to save the boost for when you really, really need it; then you've earned it! BTW, which bike did you buy?

Enjoy yours and get well.
I'm doing the same as you, turning the power off when I can and a boost when I need it. I only got it on Monday so it's all a bit new but I'm impressed so far. I bought a Carerra Crosspath from Halfrauds. We had a look around before I noticed that on offer. It seems a total bargain and has the nesessary bits like Bosch motor, Shimano gears Shimano hydraulic brakes etc. Plus lights, mudguards and a rack. Plus 12 month free credit do I didn't even need to raid the bank!

I know it's not a scooter but at least it's two wheels and has a small engine! I'm getting stronger but still a lot to do to get myself where I want to be. I'm still dropping in all the time and still love the forum.
Smeghead, I had a heart attack at 33yr old, woke up in intensive care in Northern General Sheffield same day princess Diana died. I was a professional sportsman, quite fit but after tests the specialists said it was one of those things that could happen to anyone, the hardest thing for me was not the physical stress but the mental stress which i'm sure you're going through, take a positive from me please that I play golf (my ex profession) at least three times a week and feel as fit as I ever did, it took me at least 2yrs to lay on a pillow and be able to hear my heartbeat at night. All the best and remember one attack doesn't mean several.
Hi Maxter, I had a stent fitted in Northern General, it's a good cardiac hospital. You are right about the mental stress, I'm not too bad now but at first I'd feel every pain and lay in bed for ages before I'd drift off. It doesn't help having to go back on a 999 call 4 times since discharge for chest pain. The quacks have decided I probably have a severely upset stomach with the hideous meds I need and I've been ok now for two weeks since getting another bloody tablet for my stomach! I've never been a sporty person and I'm also overweight, I'm really trying to get a bit fitter and I've lost 18lbs so far.

Meldrew wrote: Tue Nov 13, 2018 1:01 pm Nice one, I looked at eBikes four years ago before I bought my Dutch push bike. Back then they were all a bit crude looking, just ordinary push bikes with a reinforced frame, a hub motor, and a battery pack cobbled on.

How things have changed, there's some real beauties about nowadays. I'd like one myself sometimes but pedalling the beast five days a week is good exercise.
Yeh some do look cobbled together. Mines got the mid drive so it looks pretty much like a normal bike. Love those Dutch bikes but I've got short legs! I doubt if be able to cock my leg over the crossbar!

Smeg,
Great move getting the ebike.
Lots of nonsense talked about them.
I bought one earlier in the year and it’s great exercise and encourages you to get out and about whereas you may not with a “normal” bike.
I wish you all the best and fun riding.

When you get to a hill, does your heart rate stay pretty constant?

No my heart rate increases, the cardio physiotherapist says as long as I can talk I'm not overdoing it

Thats exactly what I thought. It gives me the confidence to go out knowing I've got a helping hand should I struggle. You still need to pedal!

You could perhaps look into having the cycle insured for theft - by the way - thumbs up in losing eighteen pounds in weight
