Is this gradually going to escalate until someone comments or gets offended? ;)

Possibly....
My first experience of CVT in 1990 gave me a grin for about 5 minutes, beyond that I came to realise that using such a machine takes away all skills needed to ride a REAL motorcycle with the sole exception of balance, kind of makes me cry for the past never mind smiling for an automatic future using what has become known as Twist & Go.

Yes, I can appreciate that sentiment. I initially rode an auto because of a knee injury so I experienced the same lament for the lack of gears.

However, switching back 3 years later made me realise that the absence of gears and a clutch was actually quite welcome. In fact, instead of detracting from a ride it made the other aspects more pleasurable.

Having spent years having to think gears then commuting without its a no brainer and having covered 120 miles today clunking through the box my left knees shagged tonight.

Bloody good shout time to dig out some retro horror too " I crave your flesh"

Not sure what skills are taken away by riding an auto.. Maybe you've been riding the wrong auto.. looking at the list of machines below your name, I think you have!
REAL motorcycle ! I always chortle when I hear that
