I agree they are a heavy machine,i’ve had at least 5 possibly 6,a real comfortable mile munching scooter,i just fancied a change last year, which is why i got the Tmax,i was at A&M motorcycles yesterday Suzuki Dealer, pressed the sales staff to see if any replacement is in the pipeline, they say nothing on the drawing board,i would most certainly buy another one if it hadn’t been discontinued, the two points i would of asked for if it were still alive would be to put it on a diet,270 kgs is wieghty and extend the service intervals, every 4k miles does make it a tad expensive to run if one doesn’t tinker, cruise control would be nice.

I don't think there will be a replacement. Honda didn't replace the Silverwing did they? Okay there's the Integra, but that is less of a scooter and more of a motorcycle. No real comparison with the Silverwing. I could be wrong but we will see.

That's a point. Maybe Sym think it won't sell here. By the way, anyone know if the Kymco 500 (can't remember the name of it) is being imported here? If it is then the Sym TL would be a worthy competitor. If of course the Kymco sells.

Whatever it's qualities a a mile muncher, it was always far too heavy, far too complicated, and a few well publicised reports of of expensive transmission failures on maxi scooter forums inevitably affected it's long term sales.
My reckoning is pretty much along these lines, too.

The biggest market for the 650 had to be the USA surely? The 400 has had a slim-down makeover. Perhaps the main market for larger capacity scooters just isn't there any longer. It's had its day.

Very true, though I think the instances of transmission failures were very rare.
They never developed it in any real way, which can't have helped - the model that came out in 2001 was basically unchanged until its restyle, and the restyle had exactly the same mechanical bits but had a smaller luggage space which was its greatest USP! Even the Burger 400 had a series of upgrades and occasional restyles to keep it relevant.
I guess it didn't sell as many as they hoped so investment was diverted elsewhere.
Its a shame though - I guess that potential owners will have to try the BMW C650GT....
