Winter Withdrawl Symptoms !!!

Post by XP500FUN »

Some of us here do go out in winter on two wheels, some to commute, some for the odd fix !!!

But some like myself lay down the Helmet around the end of October and hybernate until April or so and the suns more with us.

For me its mainly because I am buggered ( ooeeer Missus ) from years of biking in winters when young.

But I do still get the need, I really do.

So to counter that I still go for nips out on 4 wheels just for the fun of driving in scenic places, spend odd evening`s looking at 2 wheels etc on ebay, and wathcing Youtube videos on them and trips etc.

Or sneak out to the garage and start the old beast up for 5 mins to keep it ok.

Do you suffer ?

I get out on good days don't need to ride on ice or in snow these days but the cabin fever is biting at the moment.

Even though I'm still riding, it does seem a particular struggle this year. Bitter cold earlier this week, tons of rain, water flowing off fields and freezing, roads covered in mud, salt, leaf grime, and generally damp. Which means you have to wash the scoot after more or less every trip. And when the sun does come out, its so low in the sky that its difficult to see anything!

One thing I have noticed about the Xmax is that the finish especially on the engine
is way ahead of the last Burgman I had, that turned into a fur ball if not washed
immediately after a winter ride.

On dry cold days nothing better than a good ride around, if it rains while iam out just shrug it off, provided you have the right clothing on. I have a Keis heated vest and heated handlebar grips with handlebar muffs covering them. One thing I have found is that Ski mittens are warmer than gloves, well they are for me. Just got back from a week in the Canaries, always fascinated by the Scooters I see in other countries, Piaggio and Kymco mainly I noticed and a couple of Forza's.

I haven't been out since October 20th. But plan for a little bimble this afternoon as its dry and sunny for once.

The worst thing is that you go out for an hours ride and then spend the same time cleaning the bike.

We had a little run to Bourton on the water today, about an hour for us, walk round, coffee and back home, not bad between 11.00 and 3.00pm scoot showing 10c dropped to 8 over the exposed top bit, still nice though apart from all the Japanese tourists!

Yes and after its three days the sun will start to rise again, hooray !!!

Lets hope we get a an odd nice balmy February week or two, like 2019 or even in March in 2020.

I`d not ridden in February for a few years before that little warm session this year.

Going for a Christmassy sit on and start of the Scooter tomorrow !!! looking forward.
