They do seem good there, by what people say, but its worth bearing in mind in the UK very soon we will have import charges and the charges for taking the charges etc to deal with if your considering Sym or Kymco EU parts sourcing wise.

Shame as looks like a decent option.

I think the charge will be around £11 for taking the import fees etc. ( unless under £15 ). + about 20% ish.

A good time to buy shares in PF possibly !!! they will be rubbing thier hands in glee.

Unless some sort of deal is done. We can hope !!!

If they had put a TL500 like rear end with an enclosed chain rear drive on a Sym 300 I`d be ordering one 100%.

They have`nt, I sha`nt sadly.

Also, bear in mind nothing is going to change regarding importing parts from the EU during the transition period. And it's pretty unlikely there will be tariffs after that. It's not in anyone's interest. But time will tell, the trade deal with the EU is more likely than not going to take care of this sort of stuff.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

On looking at the 500, it looks to have a chain driven rear wheel. So at service times would that mean ,apart from changing the belt ,and occasion roller change, wouldn't you also have to change the chain and sprockets? As for imports Sym could import direct to the UK, so why have a concern about any charges? I have been on the Makina website there is nothing there for my Cruisym.

Yup! Though I guess that chain life can be very variable, you might need to change the chain more frequently than the belt in extreme cases! More likely you could extend the life of the chain beyond the belt, especially if you fit a chain oiler.
It is an annoying feature of the TL500, though the same seems to apply to the BMWs, despite the BMWs' being a wet chain.

I think its a mistake myself, the chain out there etc.

Enclosed chains is old hat but work really well even on old motorbikes as mentioned before.

I have a biker cousin going from a shaft drive BMW 1200 possibly to a burger 650, one of the main drives ( excuse me ) is the drive belt and no chain faffing on.

I`d Guess the 500 Sym might be a little too high for some of its intended customers possibly too.

You can`t beat an around 750mm seat height.

It no longer looks like the SYM TL500 is coming to the UK as the TL500 is no longer mentioned on the SYM UK website. What's the point of an importer if they are not going to support your product? I appreciate larger scoots aren't the biggest selling thing in UK, but I wish SYM Taiwan would go back to their original importer MooreLarge, or go to anyone else really.

1. Blimey! Nice to know that you are still alive, Wozza!

2. Not exactly surprising. Great product, crap support.

3. Maybe idle speculation with my amateur economist's hat on but it wouldn't be a great surprise if one of the larger distributors of Chinese scooters picked up the Sym franchise in the next 12 months. ;)

Couple months back I spoke to my dealer about the lack of SYM Maxi's. Apparently MotoGB want to get rid of 'current stock' before importing more models is what they were told. If you look on the SYM global site http://www.sym-global.com/ you'll see just how many Maxi's they actually make but aren't imported here. Maxsym 400 is still in production but was dropped by MotoGb years ago. Joyride 125/200 new model out for years but was never imported. There's the HD300 - big wheels and with decent storage. Yet not imported here. Another interesting thing is they still make 250's for certain markets alongside 300's.

But also the dealer mentioned communication by Motogb is very poor, they said the previous importer, moore & large was far better. Great product, crap importer sadly.
