Wave 110i thoughts

Been out for a run today, Tue Jan 10, 2017. No GPS fitted so all speedo readings and it's got a smaller tyres on. Fitted with 2.5" and should be Front 70/90-17 (2.75") & Rear 80/90-17 (3") so there may be a bit of error there.
(Actually just done some calculations and i think the rolling diameters of the 2.5" and the 70/90 are the same)
Engine rattles when cold for about 35-45 seconds then it's quiet...........cam chain tensioner ??
Brakes are amazing, especially when compared with a C90.
Will do 65 occasionally
Will do 55 anytime
Seems comfortable at 58 ish on the motorway. Keeps up with (but can't overtake) the trucks so that is a big plus.
Mid range performance is truly amazing compared with the C90. Top will pull from 20-55 with good "urge" as in you can feel that it's accelerating unlike the C90 where you are just waiting.
Hills that used to have the C90 down to 35 in top are now 45-50 in top. That's a massive difference in ride-ability :o
Tank is piddly but i have a plan. Basically i'm going to fit a couple of 1.5L Fuel Friend containers on to the bike and with the throw over panniers under the seat i can still access the tank.
Going to make a little shelf behind the top box where the tent will go and then try to find a basket for the front.

Trouble is with all those plus points there is one thing that sets the balance back level.................it just ain't a C90
Doesn't have that uber cool image ;) ;)

Chain and sprockets ordered. Next a new rear tyre, a 2.75" x 17 will do there. Airhawk on the seat.
And i have a back rest now to fight the fatigue on longer journeys 8-)

Link to the rack is here;-

Think he's only got one left !!

Done most of the above now and got a few miles on it.
So here are a few further thoughts;-
It's a much more engaging ride than a C90 mainly because of the different torque/BHP balance. Feels more like a little motorbike now.
Handles better too, should do as it has "proper" forks. Oh, and guess what? The brakes are better, in fact that single piston front disc is really excellent.
Speedo is 10% optimistic as i now have the sat nav fitted to make the comparison. That means that all the speeds in the quote above are approx 10% too fast !
When comparing it with the C90 top cruising speed (GPS) is about 55-58 against the C90's 45-52. So about 5mph faster at the top end.
The real difference is not at the top but in the mid range. I can't quantify it but the difference is significant. Completely improved at all speeds.
Twin auto clutches make the gear changes easier and smoother.
Tanks is shit, today i only got about 75 miles from a full tank. Mind you that was ragging it somewhat
Front luggage is carried on the frame not the forks like the C90.
Seat isn't as comfortable as the C90 but not awful either.
Weather protection is at least as good, maybe even better as the feet are better shielded.

So, with these thoughts in mind i would say that if you want a bike to go places on it's a better bet that a C90.
But, and it's a huge BUT, if you want something you can love and cherish, always be the centre of conversation at the bike park, and has it's own built in "coolness" the the C90 is the one for you. Still an incredibly able machine designed by a genius.

Nice read Steve and a good little machine. Do post pictures when you get back from the Dragon.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery but today is a gift!

Well "doing the Dragon" is not a real Dragon cos I'm not camping !!!
Decided that at 68 I'm going to restrict my camping to warmer seasons ;)
We have an "alternative" Dragon where we do all the travelling and socialising but we don't buy tickets and we stay in a bunk house Friday and Saturday night. Never the less it's still an adventure, near on 600 miles on baby bikes.

And in answer to you RR I will of course post pictures but I don't think the bike will look too much different. Major change will be amount of dirt on it as I plan on returning via the lake Bala (Llyn tegid) to lake Vyrnwy pass. Also known as the Hirnant pass (Google it, it's worth a visit) One of my favourite pieces of road. Going to depend on the weather though cos last year there was snow on the top and I was on a 500cc road bike with real road tyres (really slippy!) and my mate was on a DR350 (I'm alright Jack!).

The Wave is looking good Steve - very 'tourified' and well up for your trip.
Will you fit a fully enclosed chain-guard? I 'm told the Innova chainguard fits the Wave.

Have you tried an Innova?
I wonder whether the 125cc would even better suited than the 110cc Wave - it seems to tick the other boxes, proper forks, albeit with same pathetic 3.7 ltr fuel tank

Be interested to know if the chainguard thing is true. There is no obvious way of attaching the bottom half on the Wave.
Got any more information please Pete ?

Just done some checking Wave v Innova
Wave. 8.42 hp
Innova. 9.17
Same revs
Wave. 8.65 nm @ 5k
Innova. 10.10 @ 3k

So not much difference in overall power but those torque figures are significant in so much as the Innova seems a much more flexible engine.
What you can't tell from the specs is how flat or peaky the curves are

Hi Steve,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Innova- ... SwnHZYajUw

Link to ebay item which states fits innova & wave, however it does state 125cc so maybe the innova is known as a Wave elsewhere?
For £25 it might be worth a punt, knowing your 'adaption' skills I'm sure you'll get it to fit mate!

Cheers Pete. Have messaged this chap in the past. Says he doesn't know.
But it ain't going to fit as the swinging arm doesn't have the (downwards) attachment tags.
Nothing to hold the bottom half on
