That'd be a good buy (CB500) but I already have the NC750 so need the contrast of small & light local (cheapish) runabout.

That's a bummer, Martyn! :(

for my money I'd go for a used Kymco Agility 125. I've ridden two for the last 2 years on Rhodes. Both had over 60,000 km under their tyres, with minimal maintenance, and both rode like (almost) new bikes.

There's one for sale in Wimbledon that looks like a decent deal.

Thanks both, Ged that Kymco looks a good alternative to the SH, however I'm having a little moral dilema and considering a low cc manual bike to replace now.

With a topbox it should manage local trips, but also cope with Saturday post-breakfast bimbles that normally entail 70-100 miles of lanes (often brown and gravelly, rather than green).

Top contender currently is MT03, the newer 321cc, rather than old 660cc version. SWMBO is away currently, so negotiations have yet to commence.

My choice in that category would be an Enfield Himalayan. A new one is about the same price as a year old MT-03. 8-)

If cost is an issue, a Sinnis Terrain would handle the back lanes admirably for a tad over £2k new.

I've been planning on a Himalayan, was just waiting for secondhand prices to get into my budget (sun £3k).

But I've sorta fallen in love with the MT03 idea, may change by next week.

Planned to have a Himalayan as a third bike, with the SH and NC. But now likely that two will need to suffice, so as the NC is the "sensible choice" I'm drawn to a light and nimble tearaway (though clearly top-end limited) second bike.

Sort of, it departed to Brittany, I rode it over last Oct about two weeks before MOT ended.

It's now on SORN and likely to only be used as parts replacement for my French X9 250 Evo, which I rode back on and is a handy UK winter use addition. Not sure how that might (not) work after March?

Of course, you could just find a nice Honda C90, Innova, Wave, or a Cub clone, join the c90club forum and come to the events and rides every year.

There are more than a few Muppets who crossover onto the Cub scene too.

:)
