It was a long walk, but not as long as the walk to the sea !
We had a static caravan at Saltfleet
Me and my little brother used to stand on the beach further up when the Phantom and Jaguar jets screamed in off the sea at rooftop height. They went directly overhead in almost complete silence and then all your organs got jiggled around and it felt like your ears were bursting. Occasionally they would tip their wings and look down at you, really exciting for a schoolboy plane nut like me. Afterwards we would sneak onto the bombing range and collect up munitions.
My mother went berserk when she found our stash of missiles and casings off cannon rounds - I got a right pasting
Used to fish for crabs at the lock where Anderby Creek goes into the sea.
Thanks again for bringing these memories back
