What a very lucky rider (or unlucky, of course!). He could so easily have gone into the approaching outfit. Whose fault? About 50-50 I'd say. The usual rule of thumb is that if you run into something in front of you then it's your fault - appropriate speed, sufficient distance to stop, etc - but in this instance the overtake was unwise and subsequent heavy braking unexpected.

Wow . just viewed the video , Ive got to say its the part in the cars fault all day . How inpatient . There was no reasonable gap for him to go in . Don't think the biker would have seen him coming in his mirrors . Biker did well to stop as he did . Hope he is OK . Should post drivers reg number .

See now, I at fist viewing thought the car, but, watch it a few times & you have to wonder why the lead bike was slowing down, causing in turn the car driver to brake increasingly hard so as not to hit him, & with that in mind it might be that the action of the lead rider that actually caused the mid rider to hit the car & then the camera bike to hit the mid riders bike.

I can only guess he slowed because he thought the car was going to continue past him. I think it all lies on the car driver to be honest.

Short answer, yes, as far as basic motoring skills go, it's the car driver's fault all day long, he put himself in front of the bike and left it with nowhere to go.

But it takes 2 (or 3, or 4 or 5) to have an accident, and if just 1 does something different, then something different happens, either in a good way or bad.

So start to question each bit of it from every angle. The car driver went for the overtake and the lead bike and the oncoming pickup, being where the were and with every right to be, left him with nowhere to go, so he left the 2nd bike with nowhere to go. The car driver shouldn't have taken the overtake, no argueing there, but should the riders have realised he was the sort of driver who wants to do the overtake anyway, regardless of whether it's safe or worthwhile?

Should the 3rd rider have dropped back and let him go past sooner, making a bigger gap for the car to drop in and plan the next phase of a leapfrog of overtakes, rather than leave him chewing the steering wheel wanting to get past all 3 at once?

Is technology the answer? If there's a few riders together as these lads seem to be, is a set of radios a good idea so you can say "We've got a twat behind us, slow down and spread out a bit" or does it just become a distraction when you start taking the piss out of each other over it?

But yeah, car driver shouldn't have gone for the overtake, end of.

I agree, the car driver should not have done the overtake where he did stupid twastard! icon_wink-.gif Wales.gif
