The bit at the top looks exactly like the Puig deflector I've fitted to my Tmax mk6, which isn't surprising if the whole SH300 screen is by Puig!
I've had a few deflectors of various makes now, from the Laminar Lip on the mk3 Tmax, the Bike-hps one on the mk4 and Puig ones on the mk1 and mk6 Tmaxs, and they have all been at least reasonably effective at reducing wind noise and turbulence. I suspect how they work is more of a black art rather than a science, but the idea is that wind channeled between the deflector and the screen is deflected higher than it would be normally, leaving the rider in relatively still air. I think.
