Ta mac65,

Nice to hear you're very happy with the 300.

I'd love to see one in the flesh and sit on it.

It is a lovely looking scoot.

To all of you out there (especially Mac) I am in need of some advice to aid my decision making so I welcome your comments. After being on a 125 scooter for 12 years and had my bike written off, I think I would like to upgrade to a 300cc scooter - even though my daily commute is through central London!
I have narrowed my choice down to the Sym Joymax 300i and the Kawasaki J300. I have actually managed to test ride both of them! I don't mean to ramble on but these are my pluses and minuses:

The Sym is a few hundred pounds cheaper than the J300 with ABS, as my SYM dealer has offered a nice discount (not my main consideration)
But the J300 has a much faster acceleration than the Joymax!
I prefer the looks of the J300...
My helmet doesn't fit under the seat of the J300.
This could be my main issue - the mirrors on the SYM being stuck on the faring seem to be very wide and could be an issue when squeezing through London traffic? Is this an issue, Mac?

Anything else I haven't thought of?

Thanks for baring with...!

Yeah keep the 125 scoot for London, you don't need anything else. And that's coming from a person who has been riding for 37 years, and on my 3rd Honda sh125 scoot.

If all you ever do is ride through London definitely stick with a 125.
Yamaha Nmax would be my choice.

I would agree with both Richie and gn2 above simon about 125 being all you need.

However, it's obvious you know what you're on about with regards 125 commuting after 12 years. So, I can see that you may need a change and that's why you fancy a bigger scooter.

Have you considered the feet forward capability on the Joymax and the lack of (comfortable) feet forward on the J300?

Well I commute with mine and never had an issue with the mirrors. I also looked at the J300. But the foot forward and the under seat space made me choose the Joymax. And I've enjoyed it ever since with no issue. Hope that helps

hi mac,

I'd love a gander at the joymax 300 but my local dealer won't bring one in for fear it wouldn't sell.
You seem to be very happy with yours, as does mr probe.
keep us informed if you have the inclination.

I had the previous model GTS 300i before the Joymax and bought both without actually seeing one. But haven't regretted my decision. Did all my viewing on you tube!

The Sym Symphony ST 200i would be a good choice

Can't see any point in anything more powerful for use in London
