xmax 400

Post by Tilly2 »

Well bit annoyed today as need new headlamp under warranty as a led has blown in one of the sidelight pods which as you've probadly guessed is part of the headlamp unit ,grrrrr. Apart from that good scoot now up to 1200 MLS and going well . The suspension was a bit hard when new but after a few hundred MLS turned into a really nice ride ,build quality is good with nice fit and finish and the matt finish I find quite easy to keep clean . Thinking about a different exhaust what do you think ? Regards Tilly2 .

Yeah when it was new really thought I would have to mod the suspension as carnt afford to loose any more teeth ! But few hundred miles later much smoother ride ,same with throttle response ,very on or off when new but smoothed out now .

the Akra is nice and worth the extra over others - unfortunately too rich for my blood...
keep us muppets posted on the headlight / side LED issue and dealer / yamahas views etc...

Dealer placed warranty claim Saturday ,will let you know when I hear something .the headlamp is not over expensive £160 I think so hopefully Yamaha won't mumble to much . Bit of a pig to swap though !

Yeah had a quick look myself and looks like headlamp /bulb access replacement may be possible after screen and battery ,battery tray removal .shame they designed it that way as engine access is really good and easy ,from what I've read though lots of scooters have bad bulb access .

there is a 3 part tutorial on you tube on bulb replacement, Spanish or Italian - but was good enough when I had the headlight bulb blow a few months back...

Been watching that on you tube thanks for telling me about it . How are you getting on with your bike ,it seems well designed and apart from headlight access easy to work on .i choose it mainly as Japanese brand and time proven engine from old majesty .

My 250 was nearly 5 yrs old - and 36,000 miles - digi dash odo went back to zero, and teh 400 had just come out - got offered a reasonable px so the deal was done, the other side of thinking was to sell my CCM 644 Supermoto - that was getting less and less weekend outings - only diod about a 1000 miles a year the last few years - kids duties at teh weekends etc... so th 400 would still give me a run out down the lanes...
Like the 400 - bit big for my commute to central london on account of its fat arse / twin air boxes, and a bit more thirst @ 60 / 64 mpg vs the 80 / 85 of the old 250...
had a coolant hose pop off, and fitted Dr Pully Sliders / rollers - yep preety happy
check out some old posts, for Air filter / oil filter have a look here - one of teh filters is a little tight in the air box but all fit...
http://www.msa-direct.co.uk/yamaha-yp40 ... r-kit.html - a bargain at £22 - fitted a set at 6k miles - second set going in in 500 miles time @12k - soem info on front pads also posted EBCs...
