Economical T-Max

Took the scoot out for a 100 mile run in very windy weather along the south coast via St Austell and Lostwithiel, from Polruan to Rame, and back home to Perranporth along the A30. That's fairly typical of my runs - a mix of dual carriageway, fast main roads and ssslllooowww country and coastal lanes. I filled up at one point, with 140.9 miles on the trip since my last fill-up. 8.9 litres to full - that's in excess of 70mpg so I'm well pleased. I never try to ride for economy, just enjoyment and I don't have any scientific methods, just fill up every time and zero the trip. For a mid-heavyweight 500 twin I reckon that's excellent.

Sounds impressive. I'm not getting a lot more from my lightweight BV350.

That's impressive from a TMax... most I ever got was about 61... normally its like 50... I filled up earlier this week at about 140 miles and put in 12 litres!

Last weekend we hammered it through the mountains and then back on the freeway at 75-80mph. I averaged 59 mpg (Imperial). Usually it's 59-61, depending upon how aggressive we are riding.

What I find interesting is that Yamaha's claimed mileage for the Tmax 500 is the WORST I ever get! Wow, truth in advertising...

Is any of that down to the changes you've made?

That's the most economical I've heard so far.

From 2 years of Fuelly input, the best I've done is 59mpg. My average was 49mpg. Haven't checked lately.

Talked to a friend in Athens, Greece and TMaxes there usually go from 47 to 40 mpg. Not weird though, too many traffic lights and too little speed limits.

That is very impressive indeed for a TMax. My Integra 750 is not a lot better than that, which was one of the reasons why I purchased it. It would be interesting to know what your mpg figures are like' once your TMax has loosened up!

Yeah - the most I've ever got out of a Tmax is around 63mpg - in nice warm weather on a decent run at legal (single carriageway) speeds. Normal is low 50s. Slightly disappointed that the mk4 isn't any more economical than the mk3, despite Yamaha's claims.

Like I say - I'm not technical or scientific about this so I'll keep tabs on what the next few fillups register.
