FJR, my trusty steed of last 4 years is getting older and plan is to replace it around xmas or January. The replacement will need to be ULEZ and busy London traffic friendly (FJR most definitely isn't!) as well as motorway capable (Burgman 400 I had before wasn't in my kind of usage )

Ideal candidate would be a tmax or burgman, andI always wanted to go back to burgman 650 which was my first maxi and where my username comes from. Trouble is the crime levels in London rules out the tmax, and even makes me reconsider the burgman 650 option...

Therefore I wanted to find out from the muppets collective if an NC750X would be a worthy alternative to my needs. I would never have considered it if it wasn't for the raving reviews on here as well as other places on the internet. Especially the fact that many muppets whom I know are dedicated scooter enthusiasts are loving it made me wonder how come a chain driven, storage and weather protection lacking adventure style bike gathered so much love.

Pricewise it's hard to beat, £5k would see me into an almost brand new NC750X compared to a 2013-2014 burgervan at that price level. My biggest decisive factor in bikes has always been the drive, hence why I steered away from chain driven ones, but the likes of scottoiler or cheap and cheerful lubeman seems to take care of most maintenance there. Plenty of touring screens out there to take care of wind buffeting, although no solution to legs being exposed still. Storage also available, especially if i were to find a second hand bike with storage fitted already. Economy is far better than a burgman, and so is the power/speed from what I've been researching.

So as you can see, i'm half convince already, but as we always advocate here, I shall try one before deciding, as ultimately one can only know once they try it on for size. I already had a burgman 650 so I know how good that is, however would still want to try out a 2013+ model to see if the widely reported vibration at certain revs and sluggish mapping to save on mpg is as annoying as people say.

I wouldn't mind an older shape burgman but seeing the prices, and considering it's a 15-16 year old design, I just can't justify paying that much for something that's looking its age now.

- Power/Speed
- Modern shape
- Thumping engine sound
- Agility in traffic?
- MPG
- Less desirable to be stolen?

Main attractions of Burgman 650 (exec):
- Comfy feet forward position
- Gadgets inc electric screen/ (folding) mirrors, heated seat
- Exhaust note
- Storage
- No chain/belt to worry about


TL;DR: I need muppets' collective option on whether NC750X is a worthy competitor to a Burgman 650.

I had one twice for a day, was impressed. But wind and weather protection the maxi wins by a mile. Burger is more expensive to buy and run. Filtering better on a NC of course. But less storage.

For my use I would get a NC. But commuting like you do, I'm not so sure but would err towards a NC.

How did adapting to the foot brake go?

You could always buy an Integra - same thing but with scooter style bodywork, and new versions even have storage for a full face helmet! Or a X-ADV of course.

The NC - new concept range of bikes are available with duel clutch transmission - twist n go - excellent machines in my opinion - I'd have one before a burgman any day

Thanks guys. My commute currently is all motorways so fjr is the best tool for the job, but at some point i'll change my job as i'm contracting. With my current use covering 1500 miles a month, it's clocking up the miles rapidly, hence the need to change before huge bills are due. Spent close to 700 quid for a major service recently including swingarm greasing and new rubber + mot.

The mechanic said something about a dogbone part that's seized up and will need cutting out and replacing on the next swingarm greasing time, which at my rate of mileage is in 9 months or so.

I considered an integra but for me if it's a scooter shape, it has to have scooter creature comforts. If not why pretend... X-adv is too expensive to consider.

I made a shortlist of what i would need to add on to a standard NC750X to make it similar to scooter levels and it all comes to around 500 quid or so. This includes hugger+chain protector, touring screen, hand guards, engine guard, lubeman, top box set and fender extender. Also there's a chance i might find one that has one or more of these at the time.

Even with all the extras cost wise a nc would come cheaper than a burgman, however there are some things i can't replace like folding mirrors/electric screen etc.

I think i should give it a chance and test ride one for a day or more if i can collar a friendly honda salesman.

Lings in Ipswich have a loaner.

Personally I think the nc with dct is the best option for what you are asking except that if it's speed you want look elsewhere.

OK I've got the X-ADV and dislike chain drive. However so far the Honda chain seems of a good quality and no 'stretch' adjustment wouldn't expect any less of the NC.

IMO (you've already owned a burgman) it is a dated design with a large arse & overdue replacement. Under seat storage is good. Limited resale market and poor expensive service intervals (Tupperware has to come off)

NCX with DCT ideal alternative, probably won't exceed 100mph but good fuel economy,8K service intervals,fake fuel tank with ample storage,costs thousands less brand new couriers friend so you can get the specialist big boy luggage if your heart desires. Resale good as newbies with A2 friendly.

I agree, I know it doesn't have scooter storage, but' Givi it up', and you will have lots of luggage capacity, 80 mpg, low service costs, and better weather protection than any other in the NC range.
PS, I hope youv'e still got your 'ugly bunch t-shirt??
