On lock down but every cloud as they say, so I dragged the old Ariel out of the garage
and though it last ran 30 odd years ago I have it running.

What a lovely old lady! Almost as young as me! I was just reading Frank Westworth about his square four in this month's Real Classic!
I wake up every morning with a smile upon my face,
My natural exuberance spills out all over the place!

And the dynamo's working!!
Amazed the magneto is, after 30 years - does it start again when hot?
My first Brit bike (in '66) was a '57 NH; my re-introduction to old bikes was a '54 NH around 20 years ago; and I really enjoyed my '57 Huntmaster and '28 Model C...

Re: 1945/46 Ariel NG
It seems to start ok hot or cold but that may change when it gets rely hot,
it was made just after the war as a touring motorcycle using the prewar
trials frame that had been used with mods for the military WNG, the
Red Hunters were a slightly more sporting bike with a lower frame though
you need to look at them side by side to tell.
I've had 2 Red Hunters and a VB 600 side valve in the passed did over
22000 miles on one of the Red Hunters.

Re: 1945/46 Ariel NG
"Real" Ariels were good sturdy machines. I rode a KH twin ( 1958? ) in the late 1960s until it was written off by a mini van driven by an apparently blind driver. Living in student accommodation at the time I had no option but to let it go and I regret that to this day.

They are certainly not fragile, the thing isn't fast but it pulls like a train.
Re: 1945/46 Ariel NG
It's magnificent Ralph, beautifully original! But why hasn't it been run for 30 years??
