Yes it was an actual vintage scooter rally. There was some festival or other at Preston Docks...funnily enough I didn't know anything about it either- more a question of being lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time..... :D

There were a few modern auto scoots there as well including a yellow X9, so you wouldn't have felt left out of it.

I was speaking to one of the lads there who reckon the new LMLs are better built than than the Vespa scoots.

Being a newbie to this forum and all that, and not wanting to step on anyones toes. But reading some of the comments about this rideout/open day (not a rally) am I to believe alot of the posters on here have never attended a scooter rally?

I would have popped over to have a look-see (and been prepared for ribbing & derision for riding a new Piaggio), it all seemed to be all 'vintage' Vespas and Lambrettas.

What makes you think you'd get ribbed mate, I've ridden nothing but autos since 2000 and been doing scooter rallys since ''95 and had no mickey taking. You'd be surprised how may Maxi scoots do rallys nowadays, 'Rise of the maxi crew' LOL!

No offence intended.

Hi Earl,

Your right in the in the fact that I've never been to/on a Scooter Rally, I only returned to two wheels in March this year after 22 years of being on four (or more) wheels. Regarding the ribbing, back in the early '70s when I started to ride there were big divisions between Motorcycles and Scooters and even between makers - UK, European, USA and Japanese, never the twain shall meet, oil and water. I suppose it was leftover from the late Fifties and Sixties Mods and Rockers.

My first bike was a Suzuki AC 100, so I was looked down on by the BSA, Norton etc. riders who still thought Jap bikes were made from 'Monkey Metal', though the reliability and build quality was far better than most UK makes. A throw back to WW II no doubt.

I have noticed, with meeting a few of the guys on this forum and reading the threads here, that there is a lot more tolerance now-a-days between brands and types of two wheeled riders. (Not forgetting the MP3 types...)

The point I was really making is that I did not know it was on. Maybe we (as motorcyclists) do not publicize our meetings/rallies enough so that more interest could be generated and therefore more awareness in all forms of motorcycling would happen.

I look forward to meeting you at a local event (we're both in the North West) some time.. (If I know about it in good time and its not raining ;) )

Keep the shiny side up.

JohnR93 no offence intended, I do get deffensive of the rally scene now and again because people judge it before attending one, I've done bike rallys on my Italjet Dragster in the past HAHA! And people have judged the biker scene aswell. Regarding local meet ups there is this one

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5194

and also there is 'Run to the hills in Buxton next weekend 6th 7th & 8th August

Bare in mind for the 'Run to the hills' people will be leaving from 8/9am onwards if you're on about going there? I'm only going for the Saturday day & night.
