Since I got my 650 about 3 months ago have managed to get to the next service interval. Decided to change oil in the engine and transmission, also changed the air filter and checked the Primary stopper bolt. At almost 9500 miles it showed very little sign of wear, though have a spare now when its needed. I noticed that on the BUSA forum the UK have issued a service bulleting saying that it should now be checked every service interval (3600 miles). For the cost of the bolt and the 5 mins it takes to remove and put back its really a no brainer.

In the next couple of weeks I plan on checking the plugs and giving the brakes a service, though the front ones look like a pain to do if you dont remove the mud guard which is a pain in itself.

I think it's impossible to do the plugs w/o removing mudguard, I certainly always try to do the least possible if I can and I had to give up and remove the thing. Not very difficult though the two "inside" bolts are a fiddle.

I used Iridiums, ignoring any arguable performance improvement, the relatively small additional cost was worth it to effectively now "fit and forget" the plugs - unless you do mega-mileage.

Worst job is getting off, and making sure you get back on properly, the coils/plug cap units.

Good luck ;)

AS Poldark says ***Worst job is getting off, and making sure you get back on properly, the coils/plug cap units.***

Make sure you do get the coil packs back on if one jumps off it will EAT the plug tip away in about 200 miles
Then you get FI showing on the dash and limp home mode 28mph . And how do i know this then
Lyn. PS: and the coil pack can then go High Resistance and they are a weeks wages each.

Poldark, do you mean you had to remove the mudguard for the brake pads or the plugs also ? The inner nuts on the mudguard look a real pain. Nervous taking them off after the mana ones sheared off on me.

For the plugs, otherwise the radiator won't swing clear enough on the hinges (l.h.s.) to access the furthest plug. Even with the mudguard off it isn't the easiest access but doable.

Don't recall touching the mudguard to do the pads, just supported the caliper with a bungee wrapped around the forks then it's easier to remove and work on the pads without stressing the brake line.

I found removing one caliper OK, just managed to get it clear of the mud guard, but the other side there wasnt enough play on the line to get it clear without either removing the guard or loosening the brake line which appear to have some union further up which is attached to the bike. I guess if I have to remove the muguard for the plugs might as well do the pads at the same time.

Hello.......My Burgman is coming up for the 8k service as i dont/cant tinker myself.i'll need to get it done for me,Smurph got a cracking deal at 1st line motorcycles, which is not to far for me to go,i have been useing a guy in WGC,although he is very good and fussy,he aint cheap.I will also try the Suzuki dealer in Chesham(ford and Ellis)i have brought a few items from them,so i am getting known them, dealers seem to be extremely dear when it comes to service's,i dont wont it done free just a reasonable job at a reasonable price, what are dealers hourly labour rates,Harley dealers were £95 per hour when i had the Harley(2008).

The outfit i got the Burgman from(West London Suzuki) have proved to be most unhelpful the couple of times i popped in for advice

Steve

Yeah, I was impressed when smurph told me, I know johnp has also spoke highly of 1stline before. May well look to use them next time too, so would be interested in your experience if you do try them out.
