I haven't ridden both but the if you look at the power and weight differences, you'll see that the 400 offers very little more for the extra grand. The fuel consumption difference between the two is huge too the 300 getting roughly 95mpg (depending in use) and the 400 somewhere around 65mpg, but 400 owners may know different.
The 400 has been dropped now, anyway. But if you're buying 2nd hand and can't stretch to a 300, then when a 400 is compared to the 250 it is a much more attractive proposition.

Sorry, can't say as I have never done it. I doubt there's anything too detrimental though.Tartan Cobbler wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 9:53 am Hi.... sorry if this question has gone on before but I do to computing what Pavarotti did to hang gliding.... what is the performance like with pillion? comfort, long distance , economy etc

Just had a recall notice for the 2018 X-max 300, for of all things new rear light lenses,
they don't it seems meet reflectivity specs.

Re: New Xmax 300
I had that too, despite the bike being written off over a year ago. Seems a strange thing to issue a recall for, but I guess they wouldn't if they didn't have to.

Re: New Xmax 300
I've just received a letter from Yamaha about a recall of my NMAX because "...the Rear Reflector does not meet standards specified by UN-ECE
for reflection luminosity."
I need to call their number to clarify - are they talking about the rear lens reflector or the little plastic bicycle-like reflector stuck above the number plate?

Re: New Xmax 300
Just read it again, I think it's just the reflector.
