Went for a nice trip round Scotland with the missis, just got back today.

We went in car but plan to do the same trip next year on bikes.

4 days, 1500 miles all in a 1ltr micra

Edinburgh





A82 Edinburgh to Fort William (very good biking road)




Road from Fort William to Ben Nevis through Glen Nevis










A830 Fort William to Mallaig (very good biking road)










The Great Glen & Loch Ness to Inverness







On to John o Groats







Dunnets Head (Most Northern Part Of UK)








Back Down To Cairngorm Mountains

Stopped at Dalhousie Castle nr Edinburgh on way back (very nice hotel)







Went to Lake District on the way back home

If you go west from Dunnet to Durness and down to Ullapool following coast its fantastic for riding best in uk for views ect .Ive had 2 trips up on the scoot and been lucky with the weather both times .julian

Id heard that about John o groats but when there thought it was ok met a few end to end cylcists in the cafe sat on a bench watching ferry and looking over to the islands I was told the Lands End people had brought the old hotel so could end up like a bit of theme park hope they add a pasty shop LOL.Theres a good youth hostel at Tounge me and Roger stayed in its got private rooms and great location .Actually Id always wanted to go to Ullapool but after coming down from the North was underwelmed I enjoyed the run across and down fuel is limited so plan carefully usually a little spar shop with a pump outside but you can usually get a prepacked coffee just add water while your there (No Starbucks LOL).Julian

What were you expecting Ullapool to be like?
I think it's a charming little town and have fond memories of a few stays there.

It was nice but in compaison to what we had seen on way down didnt match up had some nice fish and chips tho .Im sure if had done it other way as others did from Inverness would have liked it more not saying I wont go back .Julian

Most people think john o groats is the furthest point but it isn't (I thought this too) but it's actually dunnet head. Really high and wild and amazing views. Only about 10 miles from john o groats and well worth going if you want to stand at the actual top of uk.

John o groats is alright but not much there, less than I expected anyway but there is a nice shop and coffee shop. The local hotel's are a bit grotty. We drove over to wick and stopped at a really posh b and b on a loch which was half price as out of season

The a82 from Edinburgh to fort William is amazing as is fort William to mallaig.

Cairngorm mountains are stunning too.

Very picturesque and well worth a visit.
Never been there myself as the furthest north Ive been is Fort Augustus(side of Loch Ness).
Previously been to Fort William(very briefly),Oban,Inverarary,Callender,Luss,Loch Lomond,Braemar,Dunoon,etc..all the usual touristee places as thats my job..Coach Tour Driver for a large company(BUT NOT the Blue ones starting with S)..
Anyway,if youre down the other end(Lands End),you may see me coz I do Cornwall quite regular now.
Its well worth a Visit...Cornwall.

I was happy with the pictures considering they were taken on my htc wildfire low end smart phone.

My pictures came out better than my birds 300 squid plus camera, which she was a bit peeved about. lol.

I want to go up the north east next time and check out the lay of The land right side.

It was my first time further north than Newcastle and was very impressed, I'd say highlands is easily the most beautiful place I've ever been in the world. I went to cape town and johanesburg with work in march and I'd say Scotland pips that too.

It as beautiful place, I personally wasn't too keen on the towns and cities (other than the little villages on the lochs) but in between the scenery is unbelievable, it takes your breath away each time you drive round a corner or over a hill.
