Quality of Frame Paint Burgman 400?

Post by Data »

Well had the new Burgman for a week now and covered just 150 miles. Work is getting in the way of enjoying myself more. Everything is good though! Engine loosening nicely, fuel economy improving daily (72mpg...yes, can't believe it!!), brakes becoming razor sharp. Just digging about underneath the bike after tweaking the suspension the other day and was looking at the paint finish on the lower frame. Looks ok, but how durable is it and do I need to protect it with perhaps Waxoyl, or even another coat of paint? I'll be using the bike all year round and it's going to be a keeper for many years I'm expecting. How is everyone finding the durability of their paint? Any corrosion forming?

Just got mine today. Had a quick look underneath and it looks OK to me. I will also be using mine all the year round so time will tell. My last one (a 2006 model) fared pretty well.

Whoo...'58' congrats, nice one! So your older version seemed ok. Good to know. Enjoy that new bike feel.

Mac, ACF50 I've heard of it but not used it. Is it a bit like Waxoyl? A preventative type of treatment? I've loads of Waxoyl in my garage which has worked well on my motorcycles in hard to reach places, but if there is something better, then I'll take a look. Once out of warranty I'll be doing everything myself. There won't be any no go area's. So the bike should last me a long time. Don't want it rusting anywhere.

My three Big Burgers the no:3 is 09. all of them i have ripped off the tupaware and wire brushed all the tube joints because i noticed on No: one
the paint had started to come off after the first 6months. Wire bruch primmed and repainted with a little brush, none of them had been dipped
or the welds cleaned properly before painting in the factory. I hah to mix the paint to get the correct colour thou, i was not going to pay Suzuki
prices for a pot of touch-up.. BTW my MK1 T-Max was the same, i think it is because the have all that body work over the frames that we
will never notice....

Data. Re. ACF50. I have used this for a few years now on bikes I ride all year round covering significant mileages with the machines being left outside all the time and uncovered. Corrosion, Nil. http://www.acf-50.co.uk/motorcycle.htm

Thanks Geoff, I'll take a look. Kayz1, I'll be checking my weld joints in a few months just to make sure. Thanks for that.

I noticed today after a 50 miles run in the country that I had quite a bit of mud thrown up into my radiator cooling matrix low down. I thought I would probably avoid this as the front mudguard is pretty big and runs low down shielding the radiator area. But apparently not enough to stop this. The gunge is quite bad and it's a delicate operationg to clean it out without doing any damage. Has anyone fitted a front Fender Extender to stop this? Is there even one available? I'm not trying to sound lazy here, I can do a search just like anyone else but if someone has a recommendation that's always good!

Barry, I bet you are pleased you have probably finished running in your engine now eh? I'm finding it a bit tedious, but it's going well none the less. I still cannot get over how good the fuel economy is. Just amazing and it's getting better and better. At this rate the fuel tank will start to overflow!!! :o

One of the Uglies has fitted an extendeder and posted about it on Muppets somewhere (on a sigfiddy?)

I remember seeing it at a meet, it reduced the crap getting in the rad. and I decided I was going to do it but still haven't got around to it.
