Am I right in saying that apart from the name 'Aprilia' and the decor there is absolutely no difference between the SR MAX 300 and the Nexus 300?
Or are there some little tweaks.
The reason I ask is that i saw a review on the SR MAX and they claimed its top speed was 91mph.
Now the Nexus 300 has to my knowledge a 278cc quasar engine so does the sport city 300 but I'm pretty sure that the sport city 300 still maxes out at 80 tops (true 75). My 250 version does and I heard the 300 doesnt better it.
I would have thought both the SR MAX and the Sport City would share the same speedo and I know that the sport city one is probably accurate by - 5 mph.
so can a nexus 300/SR MAX really hit 90?(85 true)
if so I want one.

Never believe review figures.....unless you want to believe them!masterchop wrote: The reason I ask is that i saw a review on the SR MAX and they claimed its top speed was 91mph.
I'd be a bit surprised if the SR could hit a genuine 90. I think I once saw 90 on the speedo of the SH300, and that had around 27bhp, which is a lot for a 300. Mostly I saw 85 (speedo speed). No idea how similar the Nexus 300 and SRMax are...I suspect that the differences are only cosmetic, though there might be some minor engine tweaks.

Re: Aprilia SR MAX 300
There are folk that swear that a GTS 300 with a screen fitted will do a genuine 85mph. So, its feasible the SR 300 with its more aerodynamic shape should hit that figure. Bear in mind Piaggio speedos can be way optomistic, so that 90 mph they got is more like 83mph.

Re: Aprilia SR MAX 300
I cannot find any European mags who have tested the 300 yet, but Cyberscooter did publish a spec list last year which confirmed it still developed 22hp. Which means that it is unlikely to get very high into the 80s, and I really cannot see it making 90+.
Speedo error is a much more likely explanation. 2 mags have tested the 125 version: one got 110kph (68mph) and the other got 114kph (71mph), but both mages reported that the instruments reckoned the scooters were hitting 130kph (80mph). That error repeated on the 300 would suggest that a reading of 91mph is a real 80mph.
BTW, the Satelis 250 has the 244 Quasar with 22hp, and is wind-tunnel refined with the lowest (claimed) drag factor of any scooter. It hits the rev limiter at a true 82mph. So unless the Aprilia has much higher gearing and is also as slippery (unlikely), there is no way I can see that it is going to make it almost 10mph faster than the Sat.

If you want the fastest 300 Maxi you want a Kymco Downtown.
With a few tweaks they can do more than 90mph.

The Nexus will do somewhere around 100mph. Not bad for less than 40hp, mind.masterchop wrote:I thought it was a bit optimistic. i wonder if my nexus 500's 115 was really nowhere near

I must be getting old!!, top speed isn't that important to me any more,if its reliable, torquey enough to overtake, has a bit of character, and will sit at speed limits, that'll do me.

Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.
