Nice to see the guy in the photo is wearing so much protective gear too.....
The 'Law' in early '70s, let me drive a Bond Bug 3 wheeler on a full bike license... you did not see me complaining about that!
Helmets did not become compulsory until June 1973, any other protective gear is optional and to personal preferences. (That's why the NHS refer to us as Organ Donors.)

The point I'm trying to make is: Get as many car drivers onto two (OK, 3) wheels so they become aware of the pitfalls of sitting outside your vehicle, not safely cocooned inside a cage.

I'd go so far as to allow 16 year olds to ride 50cc bikes and, make it compulsory to have spent two years on two wheels and gaining a full bike (Auto or Manual) license before being able to take driving lessons in a car (there will be some obvious exceptions to this, e.g. Disability etc.).

Couldn't agree more. At the very least car drivers should complete a CBT and have to ride for 3 months before they can think of clambering behind the wheel...
