Now you say! One thing to consider is that whilst little scoots are pretty confined to a few particular roles (eg in town), bigger scoots can do a lot more, even up to long distance tours, and are still pretty good round town etc. Obviously they cost more to run, but you pays your money etc etc...macp wrote:Thinking about it a little more its one heck of a chunk of scooter and massively over the top for what I really need it for especially when a 125 or 250 would more than suffice.

Although the Silverwing may be cheaper to run than the car it's likely to be marginal when you add in maintenance & tyres, whereas a 125/250 could use half the fuel of the Silverwing let alone the car & be cheaper to run too.

Belated reply:
That's an excellent picture and it show that there is no ABS ring.
Mileage: I use my Silverwing purely for pleasure - no commuting - so don't keep a careful note of consumption.
At a steady 50-60 MPH I get up to 60MPG on a very good day but it drops appreciably at sustained higher speed (up to 80+MPH).
There is a great temptation to wind the throttle open when the lights go green; not recommended for economic riding but it'll beat most other bikes off the line!

Re: FJS600 Silver Wing
Personally I wouldn't use anything over 500cc for commuting. The silverwing and B650 are more suited for touring/pleasure use.
A 400cc gives best compromise between the lower cc scoots economy and larger cc performance.
But tbh a 250/300cc is more than adequate for commuting, unless you spend most of the time on uncongested
motorways at over 70mph (which is illegal anyway)...

Yep call me fickle mr grumpy
I got carried away as it was close and I got shiny bike syndrome.
Sorry chaps my commute is mostly NSL B roads with a little bit of town work but only about 15mls round trip. I have decided to calm down and look at 125 - 250cc maximum.

Re: FJS600 Silver Wing
I went on an X9OC Rideout today in the West Country.
I stayed with a friend in Windsor overnight so we had an 80 mile ride to the start in Devizes.
The Ride itself was leisurely, only 80 miles, so we had a mixture of motorways and country lanes.
We filled up a mile or so into the journey and again on the A303 just after the Ride finished - a total to that point of 164 miles.
I put in 10.78 ltrs of petrol; by my calculations, the Silverwing did 69.15 MPG.
